Hyundai Sets Up First Fast Charging Station In Chennai: Aims To Propel EV Adoption
Electric vehicles (EVs) are gaining traction in India, yet concerns about charging times persist. Hyundai Motors has taken a significant step to address these concerns by opening its first 180 kW DC fast charging station in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
The new charging station is located at Spencer Plaza Mall and is accessible to all electric vehicles, not just Hyundai models. This facility can charge most electric vehicles in under 30 minutes, making it a convenient option for EV owners.
Hyundai plans to open over 100 fast charging stations across Tamil Nadu. The company aims to make it easier for electric vehicle owners to find and use charging stations through their mobile app. This app allows users to locate charging stations, book appointments, and pay for charging services.
Hyundai's Electric Vehicle Lineup
Currently, Hyundai sells two electric vehicles in India: the Kona Electric and the Ioniq 5. The Kona Electric boasts a range of 452km on a single charge, while the Ioniq 5 offers a range of 500 km. The Ioniq 5 has also received several awards, including the World Car of the Year award.
Promoting EV Adoption
Hyundai's efforts to expand the availability of fast charging stations across India are part of a broader strategy to promote electric vehicle adoption. By making it easier for people to charge their vehicles, Hyundai aims to alleviate one of the main concerns potential EV buyers have.
