Hyundai's Upcoming Fronx Rival To Be Launched In India
Hyundai is set to introduce a new SUV in India, positioned below the Creta and alongside the Venue. This model, based on the Bayon sold overseas, aims to enhance Hyundai's presence in the SUV and crossover market. The new SUV will be built on the next-gen i20 platform (codenamed: Bc4i) and is expected to launch in FY2027.
The upcoming crossover will target competitors like the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Toyota Taisor, Citroen C3, and Tata Nexon. It will be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, offering a unique alternative to the existing Venue SUV. The vehicle will share many components with the i20, including its engine options.

Production Plans and Market Impact
Sources indicate that this new model could add around 1 lakh units to Hyundai's SUV volume. The crossover will be produced at Hyundai's Sriperumbudur facility. This move helps maintain high-capacity utilisation at the factory as production of the all-new Venue (codenamed QU2i) shifts to Talegaon, Maharashtra, in 2025.
The Bayon made its global debut in 2021 and recently received a mid-life update. The facelift features a full-width LED light bar similar to the Verna and a horizontally positioned grille with headlamps at each corner. Its design includes a coupe-SUV-like silhouette with a tapering roofline.
Interior and Engine Specifications
Inside, the Bayon shares several elements with the India-spec i20. These include the dashboard, seats, infotainment screen, instrument cluster, and control stalks. This high level of parts sharing should allow Hyundai to price it competitively in India.

Overseas, the Bayon comes with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine available in two states of tune. For India, it is expected that the SUV will share its engine options with both the i20 and Venue for better economies of scale.
The addition of this crossover is part of Hyundai's strategy to sustain its market share in India's competitive passenger vehicle segment. More details about Hyundai's new model are likely to emerge as its launch date approaches.
The introduction of this new SUV underscores Hyundai's commitment to expanding its product lineup in India. By leveraging shared components and efficient production strategies, Hyundai aims to offer a compelling option for Indian consumers looking for stylish yet affordable SUVs.
