Hyundai Motor Group Presents Human-Centered Smart City Vision At World Expo 2024

Hyundai Motor Group will debut at the World Smart City Expo 2024 (WSCE) from September 3–5 at KINTEX in Korea. The event will showcase human-centered smart city solutions. WSCE is a global platform for sharing and discussing the latest technologies, policies, and solutions for smart cities. Since its inception in 2017, it has been sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Science and ICT.

This year’s WSCE will feature various experiences and exhibitions under the slogan ‘Better Life is Here.’ Hyundai Motor Group aims to present a future city where technology seamlessly integrates three core elements: Space, Mobility, and Energy. "Our commitment extends beyond mobility; we strive to innovate continuously to enhance life quality across various aspects of our cities," said Heung-Soo Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of the Global Strategy Office (GSO) at Hyundai Motor Group.

The Group has prepared a 900-square-meter exhibition hall divided into three themes: ‘Transportation,’ ‘Logistics and Robotics,’ and ‘Energy and Infrastructure.’ In the ‘Transportation’ zone, visitors can see the DICE personal mobility platform, S-A2 next-generation airframe, SPACE-Mobility public system, demand-responsive Shucle service, among others. DICE offers customized services through AI-optimized software technology for a more immersive travel experience.

The S-A2 next-generation airframe is an advanced air mobility device capable of vertical takeoff and landing. Developed by Supernal, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, it aims to fly at a cruising speed of 200 km/h at an altitude of 400-500 meters within cities. The company plans to commercialize S-A2 by 2028.

In the ‘Logistics and Robotics’ zone, Hyundai showcases the City Pod logistics mobility device, Parking Robot, and Easy Swap technology. City Pod is an unmanned logistics device equipped with an automatic classification system that uses hydrogen energy technology. It can be used in various sectors including logistics, public transportation, industrial raw materials transport, waste transportation, and hydrogen energy transportation.

Easy Swap allows users to replace life modules according to their style. This technology enables one vehicle to function as an office, luxury limousine, or camper by detaching the business module from the fixed driver module. The Parking Robot developed by Hyundai WIA can lift vehicles' wheels and move them even in narrow spaces due to its thin design.

Energy and Infrastructure Vision

The ‘Energy and Infrastructure’ zone features a park exhibit reflecting Hyundai's vision for a smart city living harmoniously with nature. Visitors can experience an underground space design centered on mobility, logistics, and energy infrastructure through a telescope-like structure. Infographic stands around the park convey a sustainable future city's image considering people, nature, and future generations based on the hydrogen value chain from production to utilization.

The Group plans to build a smart city platform that connects mobility solutions with infrastructure efficiently. This urban ecosystem will allow data interconnection for creating a more convenient and safer urban environment. A manifesto film will also be released to articulate core values focusing on humanity rather than just technology.

The film uses cinematic techniques to portray smart city values centered on people's everyday lives rather than adopting a sci-fi feel commonly associated with future depictions. It aims to present a warm tone depicting a desirable future for people.

Hyundai Motor Group is committed to leveraging its capabilities across space, mobility, and energy to realize sustainable smart cities that inspire human progress. With about 250,000 employees worldwide under brands like Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis, they strive for creative thinking and cooperative communication to create a better future for all.
