Hyundai Motor Group Launches XCIENT Hydrogen Fuel Cell Trucks For Sustainable Logistics Operations

Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), in collaboration with Glovis America, has introduced Hyundai XCIENT hydrogen fuel-cell electric trucks for eco-friendly logistics. Initially, 21 of these trucks will be operational. "At HMGMA, we are committed to creating sustainable transportation solutions," stated Oscar Kwon, HMGMA CEO. "Our Hyundai XCIENT hydrogen fuel-cell trucks that support the Metaplant release zero emissions and offer a cleaner alternative to the traditional freight logistics methods used at other manufacturing facilities."

This initiative marks a significant advancement in HMGMA's efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability in logistics. The zero-emissions hydrogen technology highlights Hyundai Motor Group's dedication to environmental responsibility. These Class 8 heavy-duty trucks will transport vehicle parts from regional suppliers to the Megasite daily. Initially, they will move parts between suppliers and the on-site Consolidation Center, with plans to expand logistics operations later.

Earlier this year at CES, Hyundai Motor Group introduced HTWO, its new hydrogen value chain business brand. HTWO integrates the Group’s businesses and affiliates across all stages of the hydrogen value chain—from production and storage to transportation and utilization. HTWO stands for ‘Hydrogen’ and ‘Humanity,’ reflecting Hyundai’s core focus areas in its hydrogen ventures.

Jim Park, SVP of commercial vehicle and hydrogen business development at Hyundai Motor North America, remarked, "HMGMA’s deployment of XCIENT for logistics and operations is one of the main initiatives of HTWO." This initiative aligns with their strategy to establish a closed-loop hydrogen logistics ecosystem while enhancing manufacturing sustainability.

HTWO Logistics, a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Company and Glovis America, is set to install a mobile hydrogen refueling station at the Megasite for efficient truck refueling. A permanent hydrogen production and refueling station is also planned for future announcement.
