Hyundai Set To Extend Lead In TCR Championship During 2024 IMPC Season's Final Races
Hyundai Motor America (HMA) aims to extend its lead in the TCR Manufacturers’ Championship at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) this weekend. The race will be broadcast live on Peacock on Saturday, August 24, starting at 2:15 p.m. EDT.
Hyundai has consistently performed well this season, securing podium finishes in all seven races of the 2024 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC). The No. 76 BHA Hyundai Elantra N TCR, driven by Preston Brown and Denis Dupont, is currently second in the Drivers’ Championship, trailing by just 220 points. Additionally, the No. 33 and No. 98 cars are in third and fourth places, respectively.
Virginia International Raceway is a challenging 3.270-mile circuit with 17 turns. Hyundai has a history of strong performances at this venue. In their last two outings, they achieved double-podium finishes. Taylor Hagler and Michael Lewis secured a win for Hyundai in 2022, contributing to their Drivers’ Championship victory that year.
The eighth round of the IMPC schedule will see the green flag drop at 2:15 p.m. EDT on Saturday for a two-hour race. This event is crucial as it could further solidify Hyundai's position in both the Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ Championships.
The current standings show Preston Brown and Denis Dupont in second place with 1990 points driving the No. 76 Elantra N TCR for Bryan Herta Autosport (BHA). Harry Gottsacker and Robert Wickens are close behind in third place with 1980 points in the No. 33 car, while Michael Filippi and Mark Wilkins hold fourth place with 1910 points in the No. 98 car.
