Hyundai Captures Lead In IMSA Manufacturers' Championship With Road America Podium

Hyundai has taken the lead in the Manufacturers’ Championship of the 2024 IMSA Michelin Pilot Championship (IMPC). This achievement follows a podium finish by Mark Wilkins and Mason Filippi in their No. 98 Hyundai Elantra N TCR at Road America. The duo secured their third podium of the season, helping Hyundai gain a 20-point lead as they head into the final three races.

Starting from second place, Mason Filippi quickly found his rhythm on the Wisconsin track. Both the No. 98 and No. 33 Bryan Herta Autosport (BHA) team cars were in contention for the lead early in the race. After an hour, a caution period brought both cars into the pits for fuel and driver changes.

A drive-through penalty during the pitstop forced Robert Wickens out of contention for the lead, allowing Mark Wilkins to take over in the No. 98 car. Wilkins quickly adapted and moved into fourth position. Fuel strategy played a crucial role in the closing laps, enabling Wilkins to secure second place on the final lap, thus capturing the Manufacturer’s Championship lead for Hyundai.

The No. 76 car driven by Preston Brown and Denis Dupont showed strong pace, leading in the closing stages after starting sixth. However, low fuel caused them to drop to tenth place on the last lap. The No. 77 car of Taylor Hagler and Bryson Morris finished sixth, continuing their streak of impressive performances.

Following this round, Hyundai now leads by 20 points in the Manufacturers’ Championship standings. The next race is scheduled for Aug. 24, 2024, at Virginia International Raceway.

Hyundai Hope On Wheels Initiative

In 2024, Hyundai Hope On Wheels pledged $100 for every lap led by a Hyundai Elantra N TCR during each race of the season. At Road America, Hyundai cars led for 29 laps, resulting in a $2,900 donation by Hyundai and Bryan Herta Autosport to Hope On Wheels.
