Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Secures Road & Track's 2024 Performance EV Of The Year Title
The IONIQ 5 N from Hyundai has been named Road & Track's 2024 Performance EV of the Year in the "Under $100,000" category. This electric SUV impressed the publication's editorial team, winning almost unanimously after rigorous testing. The vehicle boasts 601 horsepower and an additional 40 horsepower with the N Grin Boost function.
Hyundai's IONIQ 5 N is celebrated for its innovative features like N e-Shift and N Active Sound+. These technologies enhance driving engagement by simulating gear changes and offering selectable soundtracks. The IONIQ 5 N provides a driving experience similar to high-performance internal combustion engine vehicles.
The IONIQ 5 N accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just three seconds, as tested by Road & Track. It completed a lap at New York Safety Track in 1:37.8. The vehicle was also evaluated on challenging roads over four days in New York's scenic Delaware River Valley.
R&T's annual test focuses on driver engagement, assessing all-new or significantly updated battery-electric vehicles available in the U.S. by the end of 2024. Editor-in-chief Daniel Pund praised the IONIQ 5 N, stating, "This is it!... this is the most fun by far!"
The IONIQ 5 N integrates motorsport-bred technologies to elevate its performance pillars: Corner Rascal, Racetrack Capability, and Everyday Sportscar. It offers a single trim packed with convenience, driver-assistance, and safety features while maintaining day-to-day usability without compromising racetrack performance.
N e-Shift technology replicates gearshifts by controlling motor torque output, simulating a dual-clutch transmission feel. Paired with N Active Sound+, it creates an immersive driving experience with selectable powertrain soundtracks that mimic ICE engines or futuristic sounds.
