Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Clinches Prestigious EV Of The Year Title For Third Year Running
Hyundai's IONIQ 5 N has been named Car and Driver’s 2024 EV of the Year. This marks the third consecutive year Hyundai has won this award, following the IONIQ 6 in 2023 and the standard IONIQ 5 in 2022. The IONIQ 5 N is Hyundai’s first electric model to feature an N badge, earning praise from automotive media and enthusiasts since its launch.
"We are incredibly thrilled that our segment-disrupting IONIQ 5 N has won Car and Driver’s impressive 2024 EV of the Year honor," said Olabisi Boyle, senior vice president, Product Planning and Mobility Strategy, Hyundai Motor North America. "With industry-shaping new EV features like N e-shift and N Grin Boost transforming EV driving engagement like never before, it’s rewarding to be acknowledged by Car and Driver with this significant award."
The IONIQ 5 N boasts a powerful performance with its electric motors generating an impressive 641 horsepower (478 kW) when the N Grin Boost is activated. This power is achieved through a two-stage inverter and a new 84-kWh battery. The vehicle is designed to deliver thrilling racetrack performance while maintaining everyday usability.
Hyundai's innovative technologies such as N e-shift and N Active Sound+ significantly enhance the driving experience. The N e-shift mimics the gear-change sensation of a dual-clutch transmission by controlling motor torque output. This technology provides drivers with a familiar shift feeling, making the electric vehicle feel more like a high-performance internal combustion engine (ICE) car.
N Active Sound+ complements the N e-shift by offering three distinct soundtracks through a 10-speaker system. Drivers can choose from 'Ignition,' which simulates a four-cylinder engine, 'Evolution,' inspired by the RN22e prototype, or 'Supersonic,' which mimics twin-engine fighter jets. These soundtracks provide an acoustic reference point for drivers to gauge power usage during cornering.
The IONIQ 5 N is available in a single, fully equipped trim that combines performance with convenience, driver-assistance, and safety features. It represents Hyundai's vision for electrification within their N brand, offering enthusiasts an opportunity to enjoy high-performance driving on both road and track.
