Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Named Best Performance Car At Autocar Awards 2024
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 N has been awarded Best Performance Car in the 2024 Autocar Awards. This accolade is one of many the electric vehicle has received this year. The annual awards by Autocar, the world’s oldest motoring magazine, recognise top cars in various market segments.
Mark Tisshaw, Autocar Editor, praised the IONIQ 5 N, stating: "The Hyundai IONIQ 5 N changes the game for performance cars and for electric vehicles as a car that is huge fun to drive on the road and track. Instant electric power joins forces with a very cleverly tuned rear differential to make it more interactive than many lighter ICE powered cars, and it feels completely natural from behind the wheel, and not intimidating at all."

The IONIQ 5 N is built on Hyundai's Electrified-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), similar to the standard IONIQ 5. It incorporates motorsport-derived technologies from Hyundai’s N division to enhance driving pleasure. The powertrain offers higher output and improved battery cooling and braking performance.
The electric motors of the IONIQ 5 N can reach up to 21,000 RPM, delivering up to 609 PS normally or 650 PS with the N Grin Boost feature activated. This boost maximises acceleration for up to 10 seconds. The car can achieve 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 161mph on tracks.
This latest recognition from Autocar adds to a series of accolades for the IONIQ 5 N. It was named World Performance Car in the World Car Awards earlier this year. In December, TopGear.com awarded it overall Car of the Year for 2023. In May, it won Best EV Hot Hatch in TopGear.com's Electric Awards.
Additionally, CAR magazine hailed it as the best electric performance car after a seven-car test in May. In June, Auto Trader's Rory Reid Award recognised it as the finest model tested by the presenter over the past year. It also set a record at Nürburgring for the fastest electric SUV lap time with Germany’s Sport Auto.
Driving Experience
The IONIQ 5 N offers an engaging driving experience thanks to its advanced features like Electronic Controlled Suspension and sophisticated electronic control technology within its E-GMP platform. The car includes N Pedal software for instant turn-in and enhanced throttle sensitivity during cornering.
N e-shift simulates an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission found in internal combustion engine N cars, while N Active Sound+ provides an addictive soundtrack. Mark Tisshaw noted: "There are a lot of settings menus to experiment with, and the IONIQ 5 lets you tailor the driving experience to your driving preferences."
Market Availability
The high-performance model is available for order starting at £65,000. For more details about purchasing options and specifications, visit www.hyundai.co.uk.
Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai & Genesis UK, commented on the continuous recognition: "The awards just keep on coming for the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N, a car we have consistently described as a game changer for electrified performance. It is pleasing to see that the experts at Autocar agree, and also recognise that as well as being a great car to drive, the IONIQ 5 is comfortable and extremely user friendly, making it an exceptional ownership proposition."
