Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Achieves New Heights With Record Performance At Pikes Peak
Hyundai Motor Company has announced the successful completion of the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) by its IONIQ 5 N models on June 23, 2024. The event saw Hyundai's electric vehicles (EVs) setting new records in the Electric Modified and Production SUV/Crossover categories.
The IONIQ 5 N TA (Time Attack) Spec, driven by Hyundai World Rally driver Dani Sordo, clinched the exhibition class with a time of 9:30.852. Another TA Spec, driven by Randy Pobst, finished in 9:55.551. The production IONIQ 5 N, driven by Ron Zaras, completed the course in 10:49.267.
All competing IONIQ 5 Ns shared production-spec power electric (PE) systems, enhanced with Pikes Peak-specific performance software. The TA Spec models featured minor software tuning to increase motor output and high-performance parts such as new shock absorbers, motorsport-spec brakes, and slick tires.

Historical Context
Hyundai first competed in the PPIHC in 1992 when Rod Millen won the 2-Wheel Drive Showroom Stock division with a Hyundai Scoupe. In 2012, Rhys Millen set a course record of 9:46.164 driving a Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
Future Prospects
The company plans to continue leveraging motorsports activities like Pikes Peak to showcase the superior performance of its mass-produced vehicles. Hyundai N aims to expand its high-performance EV lineup with models such as the IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup Car and IONIQ 5 N TA Spec.
