Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup Car Revealed - Namyang's EV Goes Racing

South Korean carmaker Hyundai has revealed the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car ahad of its debut at the official practice session for the upcoming Hyundai N Festival motorsports event. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car is the racing version of the carmaker's popular EV crossover SUV.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car comes equipped to take on the racetrack, including slick tyres, along with a revised body with aero updates, weight reduction and improved safety features.

The Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car shares its electric powertrain with the road-spec Ioniq 5 N model with two electric motors sending power to all four wheels. The combined system output of the dual-motor drivetrain is 641bhp which is put to the road with the help of slick racing tyres.

The Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car benefits from Hyundai's Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which supports 800V and 400V charging setups. To ensure that the new racecar keeps on blasting through the race courses the Ioniq 5 N eN1 supports a max charging speed of 350kW.

The Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car also features low and wide-style over-fenders, wider wheel trajectories for improved handling, increased downforce from front lips and rear wings. The race car uses lightweight materials like forged wheels, the FRP bonnet and polycarbonate windows.

Safety features on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car include a roll cage, racing bucket seats and harnesses. Additional safety measures, including fire extinguishers exclusively for electric fires, asphyxiation fire extinguishers and a relocated charge port location.

This season will see the IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup car undergo testing and improvements across 10 races. The testing phase will happen at the opening round of the Hyundai N Festival at the Inje Speedium on April 27th. In the fifth round of the festival, the 10 races for the new EVracer will happen across formats like one-on-one knockout races and traditional sprint races.
