Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Showcases Advanced Electrification At Gran Turismo World Series 2024
Hyundai Motor Company has introduced its first high-performance electric vehicle, the IONIQ 5 N, during the Gran Turismo World Series 2024 in Amsterdam. This digital debut took place at the Esports tournament from December 7 to 8. The car participated in the Qualifying Time Trial session of the Nations Cup World Final, ahead of its official launch in 'Gran Turismo 7' scheduled for January 2025.
The IONIQ 5 N represents Hyundai's commitment to electrification through its 'Hyundai Way' strategy. This approach focuses on flexible electrification solutions. The vehicle is equipped with a high-performance four-wheel drive system, delivering a maximum output of 478 kW (650 horsepower) and a torque of 770 Nm, both based on N Grin Boost mode. An 84 kWh battery and an EV-specific thermal management system ensure consistent performance.
During the Gran Turismo World Series, players had the opportunity to earn the IONIQ 5 N as a special reward through the Viewers Gift campaign. This initiative ran alongside the World Finals, allowing participants to secure their in-game vehicle by watching the Nations Cup via a campaign banner on Gran Turismo's World Map. The reward will be available after Gran Turismo 7's update in January.
Joon Park, Vice President of N Brand Management Group, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Gran Turismo. He stated, "During the announcement of our collaboration with Gran Turismo at the Nürburgring 24 race in May, we unveiled the IONIQ 5 N TA Spec, which went on to set a modified production electric SUV record at Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in July this year." Park highlighted that this partnership allows more people to experience Hyundai N's high performance virtually.
Kazunori Yamauchi, Producer of the Gran Turismo Series, remarked on Hyundai's achievements in motorsports this year. He said, "We are pleased to release the IONIQ 5 N to Gran Turismo 7. Hyundai's N brand has achieved remarkable success in motorsports this year, including its TCR class victory at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, securing the TCR World Tour drivers' title, setting consecutive new records at Pikes Peak, and a WRC drivers' championship."
