Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Secures The Drive's Best EV Of 2024 Award For Performance And Innovation
The IONIQ 5 N, Hyundai's high-performance electric SUV, has been named The Drive's Best EV of 2024. This marks a consecutive win for Hyundai, following the IONIQ 6's victory in 2023. The Drive praised the IONIQ 5 N for its unique ability to not feel like a typical electric vehicle, setting it apart from more expensive competitors.
Hyundai Motor North America's senior vice president, Olabisi Boyle, expressed pride in the recognition. "It’s such a huge honor for the IONIQ 5 N performance SUV to be named The Drive’s Best EV of 2024," Boyle stated. The vehicle features innovative elements like N e-Shift and N Grin Boost, enhancing its power and excitement on the road.
The IONIQ 5 N is equipped with advanced technology that replicates the driving sensation of internal combustion engine vehicles. The N e-Shift feature mimics an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, providing drivers with a familiar gear-change experience. This is achieved by controlling motor torque output to simulate power-shift feelings between gears.
N Active Sound+ complements this by offering three distinct soundtracks through a 10-speaker system. These include 'Ignition,' which simulates a four-cylinder engine; 'Evolution,' inspired by the RN22e prototype; and 'Supersonic,' reminiscent of twin-engine fighter jets. These sounds enhance the driving experience by providing auditory cues during cornering.
The Drive's editorial team highlighted the IONIQ 5 N as one of the most enjoyable electric cars available under six figures. They noted its ability to simulate gearshifts and engine noise convincingly, making it stand out among other EVs. "Hyundai’s electron-shredding hot hatchback is among the most fun you can have for under six figures," they concluded.
