Hyundai i20 Sportz (O) Trim Launched: Prices Start at Rs. 8.73 Lakhs
The Indian automotive market witnessed the introduction of the Hyundai i20 facelift in September 2023, marking another milestone for the brand in the competitive hatchback segment. Building on this momentum, Hyundai has recently widened its i20 lineup with the addition of the Sportz (O) trim.
This new variant, positioned marginally above the existing Sportz trim, commands a premium of Rs 35,000, making it a notable option for potential buyers. The Sportz (O) trim is available for purchase at a starting price of Rs 8.73 lakh (ex-showroom) for the monotone color options, while the more stylish dual-tone variants are tagged at Rs 8.88 lakh.

Sportz (O) Trim Features
Despite sharing a visual resemblance with its sibling, the Sportz trim, the Sportz (O) distinguishes itself through an array of additional features. Among the standout inclusions is a single-pane sunroof, a luxury that was previously reserved for the higher-end Asta and Asta (O) trims.
This feature addition is poised to appeal to customers seeking an open and airy cabin atmosphere. Furthermore, the variant enhances convenience with the introduction of a wireless charger and an upscale touch with faux leather finishes on the door armrests.
The cabin of the Hyundai i20 Sportz (O) is also thoughtfully equipped with comfort and convenience features, including a height-adjustable driver's seat, cruise control, and a rear parking camera, enhancing the driving experience.
While the variant comes fitted with 16-inch steel wheels, it's worth noting that the more premium diamond-cut alloys remain exclusive to the top-tier trims. The entertainment quotient is covered by a standard sound system comprising front and rear speakers along with front tweeters, although the premium Bose sound system is reserved for the higher models.

In the domain of safety, Hyundai does not compromise with the i20 Sportz (O) variant, which is fortified with six airbags, ABS, EBD, hill-start assist, ESC, and Vehicle Stability Management Control, ensuring a protective environment for its occupants.
Engine Specs
Powering the Hyundai i20 Sportz (O) is the dependable 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine. Unique to this trim, the engine is paired exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission, delivering a performance of 83hp. It's noteworthy that the same engine, when coupled with the CVT auto transmission available in select trims, churns out a slightly higher output of 88hp.
Competition and Market Positioning
The Hyundai i20 has always been a formidable contender in the premium hatchback category, locking horns with rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Tata Altroz. While the Altroz sets itself apart with a turbo-petrol engine option, the i20's broad appeal is bolstered by its well-rounded package and the addition of the Sportz (O) trim.
Despite the discontinuation of the 120hp turbo-petrol engine in the regular i20 lineup, enthusiasts can still opt for the performance-focused i20 N Line.
DriveSpark Thinks
In conclusion, the introduction of the Hyundai i20 Sportz (O) trim is a strategic move to cater to the evolving preferences of Indian consumers, offering them more choice and value within the i20 lineup.
With its enhanced features, refined aesthetics, and competitive pricing, the Sportz (O) is poised to attract a wider audience, further cementing Hyundai's position in the premium hatchback segment.
