Hyundai Hope On Wheels Unveils 2024 Grant Winners In Continued Fight Against Childhood Cancer
Hyundai Hope On Wheels, a nonprofit backed by Hyundai Motor America and over 835 U.S. dealers, has announced the recipients of its 2024 research and programmatic grants. This year, the organisation is committing $26 million to support 91 grants aimed at enhancing treatments and outcomes for children with cancer. The grants include 27 Hyundai Scholar Hope Grants at $400,000 each, 14 Hyundai Young Investigator Grants at $250,000 each, and 50 Hyundai Impact Grants at $100,000 each.
José Muñoz, president and global chief operating officer of Hyundai Motor Company, expressed empathy for families dealing with childhood cancer. He stated, "As a parent I can only imagine the challenges families endure when a child is battling cancer. All of us at Hyundai and our dealer partners are mobilizing resources to help end childhood cancer. We’re very proud that in the 26 years of Hyundai Hope On Wheels we’ve helped more than 25,000 children and their families in the U.S. beat cancer. At Hyundai, humanity is at the heart of everything we do."
The grants are awarded to Children’s Oncology Group (COG) member institutions across three categories. The two-year Hyundai Scholar Hope Grant and Hyundai Young Investigator Grant are given for innovative research projects selected by a Medical Advisory Committee of leading pediatric oncologists from various U.S. institutions. The one-year Hyundai Impact Grant provides funding for childhood cancer research or direct patient assistance programs.
John Guastaferro, executive director of Hyundai Hope On Wheels, highlighted the organisation's ongoing commitment to fighting childhood cancer. He said, "Hyundai Hope On Wheels continues to be a beacon of hope in the fight against childhood cancer by funding lifesaving research and programs. We are honored to award $26 million in new grants this year, surpassing a lifetime giving milestone of a quarter-billion dollars. Congratulations to all the grant award winners and gratitude to everyone who stands with us in this fight to help create a world without childhood cancer."
The official presentation of these grants will take place during National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month through Handprint Ceremonies held by Hyundai Hope On Wheels. These ceremonies involve children impacted by cancer, doctors, researchers, and Hyundai partners placing their painted handprints on a Hyundai vehicle as a symbol of collective hope for a cure.
At the end of September, partners will gather in Washington D.C. to celebrate the organisation’s 26th anniversary and outline future plans. This event will further solidify their commitment to eradicating childhood cancer.
