Hyundai To Provide Free NACS DC EV Adapters For Enhanced Charging Convenience Starting In 2025
Hyundai is set to offer a free North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter to its electric vehicle (EV) customers starting in the first quarter of 2025. This initiative will allow Hyundai EV drivers access to over 20,000 Tesla Supercharger stations across the United States. The adapter will be available for purchase through authorised Hyundai dealers as well.
Current and new Hyundai EV owners who have acquired their vehicles by January 31, 2025, can request this complimentary adapter via the MyHyundai owner portal. Eligible models include the 2024 and earlier KONA Electric, IONIQ hatchback, IONIQ 5, and IONIQ 6, along with the 2025 IONIQ 6, IONIQ 5 N, and KONA Electric.
The upcoming 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 will be the first non-Tesla vehicle to feature a factory-installed native NACS port. This integration ensures that Hyundai EV drivers can access more than 38,000 NACS and Combined Charging System (CCS) DC fast chargers nationwide. A NACS-equipped 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Limited was recently photographed connected to a Tesla Supercharger in Buelton, California.
Olabisi Boyle, senior vice president of product planning and mobility strategy at Hyundai Motor North America, stated: "To accelerate EV adoption, we started by listening to our current owners. These adapters will make DC fast-charging more convenient for current owners." Boyle also mentioned that improvements to their digital charging ecosystem would enhance future customer experiences.
The Genesis luxury brand has announced its participation in this program. Details regarding Genesis's involvement will be disclosed early next year. Meanwhile, information about claiming the free adapter and pricing for additional units will be shared on HyundaiNews.com and other customer communication channels in 2025.
