Hyundai Exter CNG Delivers Begin: A New Era Of CNG Vehicles In India
Hyundai India has introduced the Exter with a twin CNG cylinder setup, available in three variants: S, SX, and SX Knight Edition. The starting ex-showroom price for these models is Rs. 8.5 lakh. Following its launch, the vehicle has begun arriving at dealerships nationwide.
Exter's Twin CNG Cylinder Technology
Exter's dual CNG tanks are based on a concept similar to Tata's twin CNG cylinder technology. Instead of a single 60-litre tank, the Exter features two 30-litre tanks. These tanks are positioned inside the boot, which allows for more usable luggage space. However, this design means that the Exter Hy-CNG Duo versions do not include a spare wheel and instead come with a puncture repair kit.

Mechanically, the Exter is powered by a 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine is paired with either a five-speed manual or an AMT gearbox in its petrol variant. In its CNG version, however, it is only available with a manual gearbox.
Fuel Efficiency and Performance
The new CNG technology in the Exter provides an average fuel efficiency of 27.1 km/kg when running in CNG mode. This makes it an economical choice for those looking to reduce their fuel expenses while maintaining performance.

Hyundai's decision to offer the Exter with twin CNG cylinders aims to provide customers with better boot space without compromising on fuel efficiency. This approach mirrors Tata's strategy but offers Hyundai's unique take on improving practicality in compact cars.
The introduction of this model reflects Hyundai's commitment to expanding its range of eco-friendly vehicles in India. By offering multiple variants, Hyundai caters to different customer preferences and needs.

This move also aligns with the growing demand for alternative fuel vehicles in India as consumers seek more cost-effective and environmentally friendly options.
The absence of a spare wheel might be seen as a drawback by some potential buyers. However, Hyundai has mitigated this by including a puncture repair kit, ensuring that drivers can still address minor tyre issues on the go. Overall, Hyundai's new Exter Hy-CNG Duo offers an innovative solution for those looking for both practicality and efficiency in their vehicles.
