Hyundai Celebrates 101,661 Sold Exters: Compact SUV's Success
Hyundai Motor India's Exter compact SUV, launched on July 10, 2023, has quickly become a significant player in the company's lineup. Within a year, it has sold an estimated 101,661 units, making it Hyundai's third best-selling SUV after the Creta and Venue. To celebrate its first anniversary, Hyundai has introduced the Exter Knight special edition with updated styling.
The Exter Knight edition is based on the SX and SX(O) Connect variants. It features exterior updates such as black painted side-sill garnish, red accents on the front bumper and tailgate, red brake calipers, black skid plates, black alloy wheels on the SX(O) Connect, and a Knight emblem. Inside, it boasts an all-black theme with red accents and stitching.

Exter's Market Performance
Since its launch at an aggressive price of Rs 599,000, the Exter has made a strong impact in the competitive Indian SUV market. In FY2024 alone, it sold 71,301 units and accounted for 18% of Hyundai's total SUV sales of 388,725 units. The entry-SUV category within the sub-four-metre-SUV segment is witnessing strong demand.
The Exter's aggressive pricing strategy has paid off in this ultra-competitive segment. With around 20,000-22,000 entry SUVs sold each month in India, the Exter has managed to secure its place among top contenders like Tata Punch and Maruti Fronx.

Design and Features
The Exter follows Hyundai's 'Parametric’ design language with boxy proportions and an upright stance. It features a split-headlamp setup with integrated 'H’-shaped LED DRLs at the front. The wide black grille and prominent chin with a faux silver skid plate add to its robust look.
At the rear, it gets LED tail-lights, a shark-fin antennae, roof rails, and a single-pane sunroof – a first-in-segment feature. Inside, it offers an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with over 60 connected car features under Hyundai's Bluelink connectivity suite.
Safety and Engine Options
The Exter comes in five trim levels with six airbags and electronic stability control (ESC) as standard safety features. It is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 82hp and comes with either a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox option.
Hyundai claims fuel economy ratings of 19.4kpl for the manual version and 19.2kpl for the automatic. A factory-fitted CNG option offers superior fuel economy of 27.10kpl.

First Quarter Sales
In the first quarter of FY2024 (April-June), the Exter contributed significantly to Hyundai's UV sales with an estimated 22% share from selling around 22,361 units out of total UV sales of 100,745 units. This performance underscores its growing popularity among Indian consumers.
The new Exter Knight edition retains the same engine as the standard model but adds unique styling elements to mark its first anniversary. Prices for this special edition start at Rs 838,000.
This strategic move by Hyundai aims to strengthen its position in India's competitive SUV market while celebrating a successful year for the Exter compact SUV.
