Hyundai Motor Group Gifts Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus To Aid Firefighters' Recovery

Hyundai Motor Group has donated a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Support Bus to the Korean National Fire Agency. This bus provides firefighters with a place to recover from the extreme conditions they face while battling fires. The donation was marked by a campaign video that tells the story of firefighters and the positive impact of the bus on their operations and working conditions.

The Hydrogen Fuel Cell Support Bus is based on the Hyundai Universe fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV). It was designed with input from Korean firefighters and deployed on Jeju Island. The vehicle operates silently and without vibration, providing an optimal rest environment for firefighters during their breaks.

Firefighters work in shifts at large-scale fire incidents, with operational intervals ranging from 20 to 30 minutes. During rest periods, they can recover inside the bus, which emits pure water from its hydrogen fuel cell. The bus features a U-shaped meeting space with sofas, premium reclining seats, a compact cooking area, an external air tent with power supply, high-pressure air and water guns, and storage for fire-resistant clothing.

The Hydrogen Fuel Cell Support Bus is fueled by green hydrogen produced at the Green Hydrogen Production Complex in Jeju Island. This initiative highlights Hyundai's commitment to establishing a hydrogen-based ecosystem and accelerating the development of a hydrogen society. The Group's XCIENT Fuel Cell heavy-duty trucks are deployed in 10 countries, including the U.S. and Switzerland.

The campaign video titled "Got Your Back - Hydrogen Fuel Cell Support Bus for Firefighters’ Recovery in the Line of Duty" was narrated by Korean-American firefighter Peter Lee. It highlights the risks firefighters face and underscores the importance of the innovative hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in improving their recovery conditions.

Veteran firefighters encourage their junior counterparts to take breaks during intense firefighting operations. These testimonials emphasize valuing their own lives as much as those they save. This initiative reflects Hyundai Motor Group's dedication to bettering humanity through innovative solutions.
