2024 Hyundai Creta Vs Rivals: Fuel Efficiency Comparison
Hyundai recently stirred up the Indian SUV segment with the introduction of the refreshed Creta. This latest iteration comes with a substantial makeover, both aesthetically and mechanically, incorporating a new turbo petrol engine that promises spirited performance.
Priced from a competitive Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and with a nominal booking fee of Rs 25,000, the new 2024 Hyundai Creta can be reserved through Hyundai's online platform or at any authorized dealership.
Engine Options and Transmission Variants
The revamped Creta arrives with a trio of engine configurations to cater to diverse preferences. The lineup includes a 115PS 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine, a robust 116PS 1.5-litre turbo diesel, and a powerful 160PS 1.5-litre turbo petrol unit.
The NA petrol engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT), offering a smooth driving experience. Those opting for the turbo diesel powertrain can choose between a 6-speed manual and a torque converter automatic.
However, for the Creta SUV with a turbo petrol engine, the model comes exclusively with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission for fast up and downshifts, enabling an engaging driver-focused driving experience.
Fuel Economy: A Comparative Snapshot
The Creta's fuel efficiency is noteworthy. The 1.5L naturally-aspirated manual and automatic petrol variants boast an ARAI-certified mileage of 17.4kmpl and 17.7kmpl, respectively. When it comes to competition, Kia's Seltos, which shares the same powertrains, delivers a close 17kmpl and 17.7kmpl for manual and automatic versions.
On the other hand, the Honda Elevate SUV, with its 121PS 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine, offers a mileage of 15.31kmpl for the manual variant and 16.92kmpl for the automatic variant.
Leading the pack in fuel efficiency are the Grand Vitara and the Hyryder, with their 1.5L petrol engines achieving an impressive 21.11kmpl in manual and 20.58kmpl in automatic. Volkswagen's Taigun and Skoda's Kushaq, equipped with a 1.0L turbo petrol engine, return respectable figures of 19.87kmpl and 18.15kmpl for manual and automatic transmissions, respectively.
In the realm of turbo petrol engines, the Creta stands out with an ARAI-certified mileage of 18.4kmpl, solely in its dual-clutch automatic variant, as it lacks a manual option. By comparison, the Seltos offers both manual and DCT gearboxes, with fuel efficiencies of 17.7kmpl and 17.9kmpl respectively.
Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq impress with 18.6kmpl and 19kmpl in their manual and automatic turbo variants. Hybrids also make a mark in this segment, with the Grand Vitara and the Hyryder's hybrid powertrains achieving an extraordinary 27.97kmpl.
Diesel Dynamics
The diesel domain is dominated by the Creta and Seltos, both housing a 1.5L turbo diesel engine that churns out 116PS and 250Nm of torque. The Creta's diesel variants claim an excellent 21.8kmpl with the manual transmission and 19.1kmpl with the torque converter automatic.
On the other hand, the Kia Seltos follows closely despite an identical powertrain by offering 20.7kmpl in the manual version and mirroring the Creta's 19.1kmpl for the automatic.
