Hyundai's New Creta EV Undergoes Road Testing In India: Promises Practicality & Affordability
Hyundai's upcoming electric vehicle, the Creta EV, has been spotted undergoing road tests in India. This development comes as the country sees a steady rise in electric car purchases. Currently, Tata Motors leads the market, with Mahindra just beginning its foray into electric vehicles. Hyundai is expected to join the competition soon with the Creta EV.
Hyundai already offers two electric models in India: the Kona EV and the Ioniq 5. The Kona EV has been available for nearly five years, but high prices have limited its popularity. The Creta EV is anticipated to be a more affordable option, potentially boosting Hyundai's presence in the Indian electric vehicle market.

The Creta EV was recently seen in Pune, Maharashtra, covered in camouflage during a road test. A viral image shows the car parked at a charging station, revealing only its wheels. Observers noted a camera with a sensor above the front window, suggesting features like Blind-Spot Monitoring and possibly Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
The design of the Creta EV remains under wraps. However, it is expected to feature a 50-60kWh battery pack, likely with a single-motor setup. The vehicle may offer a driving range of up to 500km on a single charge.
DriveSpark Thinks
Hyundai's Creta is already one of India's best-selling cars, and the electric version could follow soon. However, given Hyundai's pricing history, the Creta EV is unlikely to be priced below Rs 20 lakhs. Moreover, the exact launch date remains unknown.
That being said, when launched, we expect the Hyundai Creta EV to attract the attention of plenty of car buyers in India. Moreover, this is also likely to boost the overall sales figures of electric vehicles in India.
