Hyundai Creta EV Launch In January 2025: Production To Begin This Year
Hyundai will start series production of its first large-scale electric vehicle (EV) by the end of this year. The Creta EV will debut in the Indian market in January 2025. Tarun Garg, Hyundai Motor India's CEO, confirmed this during a recent media call.
Garg stated, "I think we are using all these learnings and many more, because as you know, that we are going to launch the first high-volume EV from Hyundai, in early January 25."

Creta EV: Competition and Production Details
The upcoming Hyundai Creta EV will compete with the Curvv EV, ZS EV, and Maruti eVX. Production will take place at Hyundai's Chennai plant, using the same line as the standard Creta. This approach aims to manage costs while maintaining a unique identity for the Creta EV.
The Creta EV will share its electric motor with the entry-level new-gen Kona Electric. The front-mounted motor is expected to produce about 138hp and 255Nm torque and will be powered by a 45kWh battery pack. Comparatively, the MG ZS EV has a 50.3kWh battery, while the upcoming Maruti eVX's battery ranges from 48-60kWh.
Design and Features
The Creta EV will feature subtle styling changes from its standard version. The grille will be closed-off, and the front and rear bumpers will have minor modifications. It will sport aero-optimised alloy wheels, a different steering wheel, and a slightly unique centre console design.
The drive selector will be located on the steering column's right side, similar to the Kona Electric and the Ioniq 5. A front-mounted charging port, like the one on the Kona EV, will also be included.
Future Plans and Market Strategy
Following the Creta EV, Hyundai plans to introduce a mass-market compact EV in 2026. Though details about this model remain undisclosed, Hyundai has committed to launching five EVs in India by 2030.
While EVs are the priority, Hyundai is also considering hybrid vehicles for the future. Garg emphasized, "All these learnings [from sales of the Ioniq and Kona Electric] will help us ensure a winning product as we introduce more EVs in the Indian market." Hyundai aims to leverage its experience with the Ioniq and Kona Electric models to shape its future EV offerings in India.
DriveSpark Thinks
With the launch of the Hyundai Creta EV in the Indian automobile market, HMSI is planning to have a bigger market share in the growing EV sector in India. Also, the launch of the Maruti Suzuki EV will make things a lot more interesting in the EV market.
