Upcoming Hyundai Creta Spotted Testing – Could It Be The CNG Version?
The Hyundai Creta is among one of the best-selling SUVs in the country, and the model consistently dominates the C-segment in outright sales figures. Though Hyundai recently launched the new Creta, it seems Hyundai is testing something new as a Creta test mule was recently spotted testing.
Looking at the spied images of the Hyundai Creta test mule, the model featured heavy camouflage. However, a few details such as the front grille, DRLs, and headlights could be spotted.

What is more interesting is that these spotted details look almost identical to the ones in the outgoing model, which means the changes in the test mule could be mechanical.
Since Hyundai has already introduced the new 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol engine in the new Creta SUV, the next obvious mechanical update could be the CNG-compatible powertrain, which Kia has also been testing.
If so, the upcoming Hyundai Creta CNG could be a game-changer in the SUV segment. Furthermore, the popularity of the Creta SUV could also push plenty of SUV buyers to consider CNG.
That being said, the power and torque figures of the new 1.5-litre, turbocharged CNG powertrain could take a slight hit in CNG mode compared to petrol mode. However, this dip in performance is likely to be marginal but expect running costs to reduce considerably.
In terms of gearbox options, we expect a 6-speed manual transmission to be part of the standard equipment. However, Hyundai could also be tuning the 7-speed DCT unit to suit the characteristics of the CNG-compatible powertrain.
It is also worth mentioning that Hyundai could launch the Creta CNG with dual CNG tanks, similar to the ones in the new Tata CNG vehicles. This design will make the boot a lot more usable.
Also, we expect Hyundai to launch the Creta CNG to be launched just after the start of the next financial year. At the same time, expect Creta CNG to be available with select trim levels.
