Hyundai Canada Reports September 2024 Sales Performance With Record IONIQ 5 Sales
Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. announced a decrease in September sales, with 10,384 units sold, marking an 11.7% drop compared to the previous year. This decline is attributed to a temporary sales boost in September 2023 due to increased inventory after resolving a summer port strike. With this factor absent, sales have returned to their usual seasonal levels.
The IONIQ 5 electric vehicle achieved remarkable success in September, setting a new monthly record by selling 1,260 units. This represents a significant year-over-year increase of 191%. The strong performance of the IONIQ 5 contributed to Hyundai's electrified fleet's positive momentum, with 3,754 units sold in September. These electrified models accounted for over one-third (36.1%) of Hyundai's total sales for the month.

The TUCSON, KONA, and ELANTRA models remained Hyundai's top sellers in September. The TUCSON led with 2,808 units sold, followed by the KONA with 2,112 units and the ELANTRA with 1,574 units. Despite these strong numbers, each model experienced a slight decline compared to last year's figures.
Hyundai's electrified vehicle lineup includes pure electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid models. In September 2024, the company sold fewer electrified vehicles than in September 2023. The total electrified sales decreased by 2.2%, from 3,837 units last year to 3,754 units this year.
For the year-to-date period ending in September 2024, Hyundai Auto Canada reported total sales of 98,390 units. This represents a notable increase of 12.2% compared to the same period in 2023 when they sold 87,720 units.
The IONIQ 5 saw significant growth in its year-to-date sales as well. It sold a total of 8,017 units so far this year compared to just 3,695 units during the same period last year—a remarkable increase of 117%.
Detailed Model Sales Analysis

The SANTA FE experienced a substantial decline in September sales by nearly 39%, while VENUE sales dropped by over 45%. On the other hand, SONATA showed improvement with a notable increase of over 50% compared to last year's September figures.
The TUCSON HEV saw minimal change with only a slight decrease of less than half a percent from last year's numbers. However, other hybrid and plug-in hybrid models like KONA ELECTRIC and TUCSON PHEV faced more significant declines at -24% and -29%, respectively.
