Hyundai Auto Canada Recognised As One Of The Best Workplaces For Giving Back In 2024

Hyundai Auto Canada (HAC) has been recognised as one of the 2024 Best Workplaces™ for Giving Back by Great Place to Work®. This accolade is part of a series of six awards received by HAC from the organisation in the past year. The recognition follows an independent analysis where over 90% of HAC employees expressed satisfaction with the company's community contributions.

"At HAC, our daily actions and purpose are directly connected to our brand ethos of ‘Progress for Humanity,’ and we are driven to uplift each other and those around us to create a more equitable and sustainable future," says Kirk Merrett, director of human resources and administration. "Generating positive impact by serving our community and customers at large is a major point of pride for our team members, who are active contributors to the causes close to their hearts. We strive to provide valuable outcomes, whether it is in our daily work or through community outreach, and we are grateful to be recognized for our efforts by Great Place to Work®."

HAC actively engages with local communities through various initiatives aimed at supporting youth. The company has established long-term partnerships with organisations like Centennial College, Automotive Business School of Canada (ABSC), and the Pinball Clemons Foundation. These collaborations focus on providing scholarships and mentorship opportunities for marginalised youth.

Mental health advocacy is another significant aspect of HAC's corporate social responsibility efforts. In June, HAC donated $500,000 to the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation. This contribution supports building a new mental health unit for children and adolescents. Additionally, HAC collaborates with Naseeha Mental Health and Kids Help Phone to enhance youth mental health services.

Each department within HAC contributes annually to a chosen charity through donations and volunteer work during office hours. The "HAC Gives Back" programme provides departments with $1,000 for charitable donations, which the company matches. Employees also participate in a summer walking challenge that raised $15,500 in 2023 for various charities.

The company's commitment extends to addressing youth homelessness through partnerships with 360ºkids. HAC's executive team participates in events like the annual 360ºExperience, spending a night outdoors to raise awareness about youth homelessness challenges.

Diversity and Inclusion Efforts

HAC promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion through its Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). These groups organise fundraising activities aligned with their mission statements during work hours. This initiative encourages employees to lead by example while supporting meaningful causes.

Established in 1983 in Markham, Ontario, Hyundai Auto Canada was Hyundai Motor Company's first subsidiary outside Korea. Today, it operates over 250 dealerships across Canada offering a range of vehicles including cars, SUVs, and electrified models. Hyundai is also an official automotive partner of the NHLPA and NHL® in Canada.

Hyundai Auto Canada has consistently been recognised among Canada's Best Workplaces™ since first being certified as a Great Place to Work® in 2017. The company’s dedication to creating an inclusive workplace culture aligns with its broader vision of progress for humanity.
