Hyundai Alcazar Achieves Over 100,000 Units In Sales And Prepares For Facelift
The Hyundai Alcazar has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing the 1 lakh-unit mark in combined domestic and export sales. Launched on June 18, 2021, the Alcazar is a three-row midsize SUV based on the popular Creta. It offers the flexibility of six or seven seats and has sold a total of 1,02,682 units to date. This includes 75,506 units in the domestic market and 27,176 units exported from India.
Over the past three years, Hyundai's manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur, Chennai, has produced a cumulative total of 1,03,243 units of the Alcazar. The fiscal year 2023 was particularly successful for the Alcazar, with production reaching 38,394 units—a 34 percent increase year-on-year (YoY). Domestic sales during this period were 26,696 units, up by 3.1 percent YoY, while exports surged by 292 percent YoY to 11,334 units.

Upcoming Facelift and Market Competition
The launch of the Alcazar facelift has been postponed to around September-October 2024. Initially planned for mid-2024 to coincide with its third anniversary, the updated model has been spotted testing on Indian roads. The delay is likely due to high dealer inventory levels of the current model.
The new Alcazar will continue to compete with models like the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus when it arrives later this year. Meanwhile, Hyundai launched the new Creta in mid-January 2024 and has seen demand for this best-selling model increase further.
The current Alcazar's monthly dispatches are less than a tenth of those for the new Creta which averages over 15,000 units per month. This disparity may have influenced Hyundai's decision to clear existing stocks before introducing the facelifted version.
The Alcazar remains a key player in Hyundai's lineup despite recent sales fluctuations. Its upcoming facelift aims to rejuvenate interest and maintain its competitive edge in the midsize SUV segment.
