Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America Unveils All-Electric 2026 IONIQ 9 As Newest Production Vehicle
Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) has announced its second production vehicle, the all-electric 2026 IONIQ 9 three-row SUV. This model will be the first new Hyundai vehicle assembled at the Metaplant. Previously, in June, it was revealed that the initial production vehicle would be the updated 2025 IONIQ 5. The IONIQ 9 was unveiled at AutoMobility LA 2024 and simultaneously at AutoNation Hyundai Savannah.
The IONIQ 9 boasts a spacious and adaptable interior, equipped with a 12.3-inch panoramic curved touch display and optional Relaxation Seats for both the first and second rows. It also includes advanced driver assistance systems as standard features. The SUV aims for a range exceeding 300 miles across all trims and supports ultra-fast charging with an NACS port, allowing a charge from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes using a 350-kW DC charger.
Production of the IONIQ 9 is set to commence in the first quarter of 2025, with sales beginning in the second quarter. Due to its U.S. assembly and battery sourcing, it is anticipated to qualify for a full $7,500 federal tax credit. The Metaplant will also manufacture electrified vehicles from Hyundai's Genesis and Kia brands, with more models to be announced as production capacity increases.
The Metaplant in Bryan County, Georgia, represents Hyundai Motor Group's first dedicated facility for mass-producing electrified vehicles. It features an advanced manufacturing system that integrates all aspects of the EV ecosystem to enhance customer value. This intelligent plant optimizes processes such as order collection, procurement, logistics, and production through AI and data utilization.
Oscar Kwon, CEO of HMGMA, expressed enthusiasm about building the IONIQ 9 at this facility: "Every new vehicle we build brings an enhanced level of excitement for our Meta Pros." He highlighted the pride employees will feel seeing their work on U.S. roads since this is North America's sole facility producing the IONIQ 9.
