Hyundai Launches Enhanced 2025 IONIQ 5 Range In US With New XRT Model
Hyundai has unveiled the updated 2025 IONIQ 5, featuring a new rugged variant called the IONIQ 5 XRT. This refreshed lineup boasts increased battery capacity, extended driving range, and innovative features designed to enhance convenience, performance, and safety. The IONIQ 5 will be the first model produced at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia.
The 2025 IONIQ 5 models will include a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, allowing access to over 17,000 Tesla Superchargers without an adapter. This addition doubles the DC fast-charging network available to new IONIQ 5 customers. Additionally, all models will come with a Combined Charging System (CCS) adapter.
José Muñoz, president and global COO of Hyundai Motor Company and president and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, stated, "IONIQ 5 has been a sales success for us since day one. We’re continuing to give customers more of what they want by expanding the IONIQ 5 lineup with a dedicated off-road-capable XRT model, NACS port, design upgrades and a long list of features developed with customers in mind."
The upgraded electric power system includes increased battery capacities: Standard Range models now have 63.0 kWh batteries, while Long Range models feature 84 kWh batteries. The targeted range for AWD Limited trims is between 250+ to 280+, depending on trim and wheel size.
The new XRT variant is equipped with dual motors (AWD only), an 84 kWh battery, and a unique suspension lift of +23mm. It also features black 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires and exclusive exterior colours like Ultimate Red and Cosmic Blue Pearl.
Interior and Technology Upgrades
The interior of the IONIQ 5 has been redesigned for improved ergonomics and convenience. New features include redesigned HVAC controls, a new centre console with physical heated front seat controls, a new steering wheel design, and heated rear seats for SEL trims and above.
The infotainment system has also been upgraded to a more powerful next-generation system. Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration are standard across all models. Additionally, all models support wireless Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates to keep major controls up-to-date.
Safety Enhancements
New safety features have been introduced in response to customer feedback. These include Blind-Spot Collision Warning for SE trims and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist for SEL trims and above. Other additions are Forward Attention Warning with an In-Cabin Camera/Direct Driver Monitoring System and Parking Distance Warning – Forward.
Brad Arnold, senior design manager of exteriors at Hyundai Design North America, commented on the XRT model: "We designed this IONIQ 5 XRT to offer more Protection, Connection, and Functionality. These will be hallmarks of our XRT models going forward."
Improved Usability Features
The centre console now includes physical buttons for frequently used functions such as heating and ventilation controls for first-row occupants. The wireless charging pad has been relocated to enhance usability significantly.
Additional measures have been taken to improve safety compared to previous models. The body structure has been reinforced in key areas like the front and rear doors and B-pillar parts to enhance side collision protection. The vehicle also includes eight airbags for added safety.
XRT Model Specifics
The new-for-2025 IONIQ 5 XRT is positioned between the standard model and the high-performance IONIQ 5 N. It features unique bumpers, stylish side skirts, dedicated aluminum wheels, higher ground clearance, and specific suspension tuning for better off-road capability.
The cabin of the XRT variant offers H-Tex™ seating surfaces with unique patterning, XRT badging and logos, along with a black headliner that creates an immersive driving environment.
