Mercedes-Benz Expands MBUX Voice Assistant With AI-Driven Knowledge Feature For Enhanced User Experience
Mercedes-Benz is enhancing its MBUX Voice Assistant with AI to provide accurate answers to various questions. This update, available for over three million vehicles globally, uses the latest ChatGPT technology via Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service and Bing web search data. The system allows seamless interaction with dialogue history, enabling follow-up questions and continuous communication.
The new feature integrates directly into the vehicle's MBUX Voice Assistant. Passengers can activate it by saying "Hey Mercedes" or pressing the speech button on the steering wheel. Dialogue history is stored for up to an hour, allowing users to ask follow-up questions easily.

Mercedes-Benz has introduced a general knowledge function in its MBUX Voice Assistant. By leveraging AI, it can now answer knowledge-based questions by initiating a Microsoft Bing search and generating responses using ChatGPT through Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service.
This feature allows users to ask a wide range of general knowledge questions, from pop culture to science and history. The system is 'context-aware,' meaning it can respond accurately to follow-up requests even if they are vaguely worded.
Mercedes-Benz ensures data privacy with this new feature by using Azure OpenAI Service's generative AI models backed by Azure cloud platform's security capabilities. All voice command data is stored in the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud, where it is anonymized and analyzed.
A risk assessment tool evaluates system responses to reduce the possibility of harmful content. This ensures that customers access safe and reliable information while using the voice assistant.
Global Availability and Language Options
The updated MBUX Voice Assistant will be available as a free update starting today for vehicles equipped with the MBUX infotainment system. Initially, it will be offered in German, British English, and American English. Users from other regions can change their system language to try out this feature.
Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, stated: "By adding an AI-driven knowledge feature to our MBUX Voice Assistant, we are making it even easier for customers to connect with their vehicle in an entertaining and rewarding way."
