HORSE Unveils Ambitious '2030 Sustainability Plan' To Achieve Net Zero By 2050
HORSE, a global leader in innovative and low emissions powertrain systems, has unveiled its ambitious '2030 Sustainability Plan' as part of its commitment to environmental sustainability and carbon reduction. The company has already submitted its commitment to the Net Zero Standard to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with the ultimate goal of becoming a carbon net zero sustainable mobility company by 2050. The plan encompasses various key milestones to be achieved by 2030, including reducing emissions through the supply network and ensuring that 60% of total global sales consist of low-carbon engines. One of the main pillars of HORSE's sustainability commitment is the aim to have 60% of total global sales comprised of low-carbon engines by the end of the decade. This will include hybrid and flex fuel powertrains, as well as next-generation hybrid, lightweight range extenders, and synthetic and hydrogen-fuelled power solutions. By achieving this target, HORSE expects to see a significant 29% decrease in emissions from sold products per kilometer compared to 2023. To reach this goal, HORSE plans to increase the production of hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains, as well as expand its flex-fuel units, including E85 and E100 ethanol engines, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) engines, and Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) engines.Patrice Haettel, Chief Executive Officer at HORSE, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainability and its role in driving decarbonization within the automotive sector. He stated that HORSE aims to provide sustainable, responsible, and inclusive mobility solutions that go beyond simply creating low-emission propulsion systems. Haettel acknowledged that there will be challenges along the way but expressed confidence in HORSE's spirit of innovation, expertise, and highly trained workforce to achieve their ambitious goals. In addition to focusing on low-carbon engines, HORSE's sustainability plan extends to reducing carbon emissions at its plants and throughout its downstream network. The company aims to achieve a 42% reduction in scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions between 2023 and 2030. By 2030, all HORSE facilities worldwide will use only renewable electricity for their operations, with more than two-thirds of its factories already utilizing renewable electricity. The company also plans to increase sustainability in the production process by sourcing 73% of the aluminum content from recycled materials, up from the current figure of 66%. Furthermore, all production facilities will implement biodiversity assessment and planning processes to ensure a positive impact on the local environment.HORSE's commitment to sustainability also extends to its workforce and the communities surrounding its production facilities. The company aims to have all its sites certified under the Great Place to Work scheme, ensuring an engaged and safe workforce. HORSE has allocated €3 million for social contribution projects that will empower employees and the local community to make positive impacts on their lives and nature.Ethics and responsible production are guiding principles for HORSE, and the company expects its supply chain partners to meet its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) requirements by 2030. These standards apply throughout HORSE's value chain and commercial partnerships with third parties.HORSE, a global supplier of innovative powertrain solutions, was established with the goal of providing highly efficient, low-emission engines, transmissions, and technologies to meet the diverse power generation needs worldwide. With eight production plants across seven countries, three R&D centers, and a head office in Madrid, Spain, HORSE produces 3.2 million units per year for customers around the world. In conclusion, HORSE's '2030 Sustainability Plan' demonstrates the company's commitment to environmental sustainability and carbon reduction. By setting ambitious targets for low-carbon engines, reducing emissions throughout the supply network, and prioritizing renewable energy and responsible production, HORSE aims to become a carbon net zero sustainable mobility company by 2050. With a focus on innovation, expertise, and a highly trained workforce, HORSE is confident in its ability to overcome challenges and achieve its sustainability goals in the coming decades.
