Honda Sets Up New R&D Hub In Bengaluru To Propel India's Electrification Drive
Honda R&D (India) Private Limited (HRID), a subsidiary of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., has inaugurated its new Solution R&D Center in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This move is part of Honda's strategic efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 across all its products and corporate activities. The newly established center in Bengaluru will play a crucial role in accelerating the development of electrified vehicles, alongside focusing on software and connected services through collaborative innovation.
With the Indian government's commitment at COP26 to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2070, Honda is aligning its objectives with the country's environmental goals. Specifically, in the motorcycle sector, Honda aims for carbon neutrality by the 2040s. The Solution R&D Center is set to leverage the region's "ecosystem" to partner with innovative companies, aiming to develop new services and business models that extend beyond traditional product offerings.

Honda's approach includes a strong emphasis on addressing social issues such as energy efficiency and traffic safety. Through its Triple Action to ZERO initiative, Honda is dedicated to carbon neutrality, clean energy, and resource circulation. Furthermore, the company is committed to eliminating traffic collision fatalities involving its motorcycles and automobiles globally by 2050.
Established in June 2003, Honda R&D (India) Private Limited operates as the research and development wing for Honda's motorcycles and power products in India. Under the leadership of Mikio Uchiyama, President and Chief Executive Officer, HRID has been at the forefront of innovation in the automotive sector. The company's headquarters are located in Gurugram, Haryana, with additional offices in Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.
The Solution R&D Center, which commenced operations on April 1, 2024, is set to become a hub for exploring advanced mobility technologies and IT solutions. The center aims to understand customer experience value from products and services while researching competitive trends and exploring suppliers for electric components. This initiative marks a significant step towards Honda's global target of carbon neutrality by 2050.
Honda's commitment to innovation and sustainability is evident in its investment in the Solution R&D Center. By focusing on electrification and creating value beyond conventional frameworks, Honda aims to continue being a preferred choice for customers worldwide. The establishment of this center not only aligns with global environmental targets but also positions Honda as a leader in sustainable mobility solutions.
