Honda Welcomes Over 1,700 Students To Manufacturing Day Events At 11 U.S. Facilities

Students are getting a firsthand look at Honda's manufacturing processes across 11 facilities in the United States. These visits, part of Honda's Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) events, aim to highlight career opportunities in modern manufacturing. Activities began in late September and will continue through October, engaging students with hands-on experiences like virtual welding and vehicle painting simulations.

Honda's MFG Day events are reaching over 1,700 students from 45 schools in states including Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, and the Carolinas. "Honda has a proud tradition of celebrating Manufacturing Day," said Meredith Reffey from American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "We take Manufacturing Day very seriously at Honda because it offers a fantastic opportunity to inspire the next generation to explore careers in modern manufacturing."

Honda Hosts Students for Manufacturing Day Events

During these visits, students learn directly from Honda associates about the production of world-class Honda and Acura products. They tour facilities to understand how technology and teamwork contribute to advanced manufacturing processes. Each location provides unique experiences related to the specific products they produce.

In Alabama, students discover how the Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline, Passport, and V-6 engines are built. They engage in activities like a team assembly challenge and a virtual paint simulator that showcases automation in painting processes.

At the Georgia Transmission Plant, students see how automatic transmissions and components for Honda and Acura vehicles are made. They try securing bolts and interact with robots used in production.

The Indiana Auto Plant offers insights into advanced manufacturing techniques used for the Civic Hatchback and CR-V. Students can virtually weld vehicle parts and test their skills on a racing simulator.

Ohio facilities demonstrate the building of engines and hybrid systems. Students participate in model car assembly races and bolt stacking games while learning about quality testing careers.

In North Carolina, students explore the production of ATVs and outdoor equipment at Swepsonville. They engage in virtual reality activities that emphasize teamwork in product assembly.

Technology and Innovation at Work

The Greensboro plant showcases innovations used in producing the HondaJet Elite II. Meanwhile, South Carolina's Timmonsville facility highlights side-by-side vehicle production with activities like model car assembly using 3-D printers.

Honda's commitment to manufacturing excellence spans over four decades in North America. Starting with motorcycle production in 1979, Honda now operates 18 plants employing over 33,000 associates. The company produces millions of automobiles annually alongside engines, power equipment products, powersports products, light jets, and turbofan engines.

In 2023 alone, more than 99% of U.S.-sold Honda vehicles were made locally using domestic and global parts. With investments exceeding $24 billion over time—including $4.7 billion recently—Honda collaborates with over 700 suppliers across North America.
