Honda Showcases Past, Present, And Future At Goodwood Festival Of Speed 2024
Honda is set to make a significant return to the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024, scheduled from 11th to 14th July. This year's event marks a milestone for Honda, showcasing a range of iconic vehicles and heritage models. One of the main attractions will be the first European public appearance of the Honda Prelude Concept, which will be displayed in the First Glance paddock.
Tomoyuki Yamagami, Chief Engineer and Large Project Leader at Honda Motor, expressed his excitement: "The Prelude not only marks the latest chapter in our ever-evolving hybrid story, it is also the product of 25 years of pioneering hybrid research and development. Ensuring this model maintains its ‘sporty’ DNA by perfectly blending the efficiency and environmental advantages of electrified driving with an exhilarating experience behind the wheel – liberating users from their daily lives with increased driving pleasure."
In addition to the Prelude Concept, Honda will display several racing heritage models, including Formula 1 cars and Grand Prix motorcycles. Notably, the legendary RA272 and RC142 will be showcased. The RA272 holds historical significance as it was the first Japanese car to win a Formula 1 Grand Prix during its debut in the 1965 season.
The RA272 features a 1.5-liter V12 engine capable of reaching 13,000 rpm. It is celebrated for its innovative engineering and performance. Hikaru Miyagi will drive this iconic car up the Hillclimb on Saturday, followed by Yuki Tsunoda on Sunday.
Honda's celebrated Civic Type R lineup will also be featured at the festival. All UK generations from EP3 to FL5 will be showcased on Thursday. This lineup highlights the evolution in performance, agility, and style that has defined the Civic Type R over the years.
To mark this occasion, Honda has released a limited batch of 118 Civic Type R units available for sale on a first-come, first-served basis through retailers.
Electric Avenue Showcase
The Goodwood Electric Avenue will host various vehicles dedicated to zero-emissions driving. The all-electric e:Ny1 will be part of this exclusive lineup. Additionally, Honda's stand will feature cars, motorcycles, and power products.
Rebecca Adamson, Head of Automobile at Honda UK, shared her enthusiasm: "We are thrilled to return to Goodwood Festival of Speed. This event holds a very special place in the hearts of both automotive enthusiasts and Honda." She added that both historic models like the original Prelude Concept and contemporary ones like the Civic Type R would be on display.
60 Years in Motorsport
This year also marks Honda's celebration of 60 years since its first participation in Formula 1 racing. The RA272 and other historic models underscore Honda's rich motorsport history and achievements over six decades.
The RC142 motorcycle represents another facet of Honda's excellence in racing during the 1950s when it established itself as a dominant force in Grand Prix motorcycle racing.
Family-Friendly Activities
Honda's presence at Goodwood will include family-friendly activities showcasing its performance partnership with England Rugby. Attendees can look forward to exciting activations throughout the festival.
Back by popular demand are Honda’s iconic sunglasses. Festival-goers can find team members wearing these sunglasses and use the code ‘sunny side up’ to receive a pair.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024 promises an exciting experience for Honda fans and automotive enthusiasts alike. The event will feature a blend of historic and contemporary models that highlight Honda's legacy and future in automotive innovation.
