Honda Auto Sales Exceed One Million Units In 2024 Amid Supply Challenges

American Honda's sales in October reached 110,346 units, marking a 2.1% increase despite ongoing supply challenges. The Honda brand exceeded one million units sold in 2024, achieving this milestone a month earlier than last year. This was driven by nearly 100,000 units sold in October alone, reflecting a 2.6% rise and maintaining strong annual momentum.

Honda's electrified vehicle sales surpassed 30,000 units, with hybrids leading the charge. The CR-V and Accord hybrids accounted for over half of their respective sales mixes. Civic hybrid sales contributed to over 26% of its total sales, while Prologue EV sales reached 4,130 units.

The light truck segment saw significant growth, with an increase of 15% for the year and 71,355 units sold in October. The Pilot remained the top model in its segment with sales of 11,927 units, up by 27% year-to-date. TrailSport models made up a notable portion of these sales.

The HR-V continued to perform well as a gateway model with sales of 11,512 units in October, maintaining over 10k monthly sales throughout the year. Meanwhile, the Ridgeline achieved over 4,300 unit sales and the Odyssey retained its top position in its segment with October sales reaching 6,041 units.

Acura brand sales totaled 10,847 units in October despite supply constraints affecting key models. SUV sales increased by 12%, even as some models transitioned to the 2025 model year. The RDX maintained a positive trajectory with a yearly increase of 14%, selling 3,719 units in October.

The MDX also showed resilience with October sales rising by 7% to reach 3,904 units despite limited inventory. Upper trims like Type S and A-Spec contributed significantly to the mix. The all-electric ZDX had its best month since launch with over 1,200 units sold.

Year-to-Date Sales Overview

Year-to-date figures for American Honda show total sales at over 1.16 million units, an increase of 8.2%. Car sales slightly declined by 1.3%, while truck sales surged by more than 13%. In October alone, car sales dropped by about 16%, whereas truck sales rose by over 11%.

Acura sedan sales exceeded expectations despite limited availability. The Integra captured more than half of its class's market share while TLX Type S accounted for around 16% of Acura's annual sedan sales.

The ZDX Type S represented approximately one-fifth of ZDX's total October sales as it averaged over a thousand monthly unit sales recently.

This performance underscores American Honda's ability to navigate supply issues while maintaining robust demand across both Honda and Acura brands.
