Hispano Suiza Celebrates Past And Present With Carmen Sagrera Debut At Monterey Car Week

Hispano Suiza is set to make a significant return to the United States by participating in the Monterey Car Week, scheduled from 9 to 18 August in California. The event will see the debut of the Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera at The Quail, a prominent motoring gathering. This hypercar will be showcased alongside the historic 1938 Hispano Suiza Xenia Dubonnet, which has inspired the current range of hypercars.

Monterey Car Week is a major summer event in the U.S., attracting around 100,000 attendees, including collectors, enthusiasts, and celebrities. The Californian city of Carmel-by-the-Sea and its surrounding areas host this prestigious event. One of its highlights is The Quail, where Hispano Suiza will unveil the Carmen Sagrera to the American public. This new hypercar features a fresh design, 1,114 hp, and a 103 kWh battery, celebrating the brand's 120-year legacy.

The Carmen Sagrera will be officially presented at a press conference on August 16 at 11:00 am (local time). The Hispano Suiza stand will also include a merchandising area showcasing its new Capsule Collection, a hospitality area, and an exhibition space. According to Sergio Martínez Campos, CEO of Hispano Suiza: "Presenting the Carmen Sagrera in the United States on our 120th anniversary is a significant milestone for us. We couldn't imagine a better setting than Monterey Car Week, and specifically, The Quail."

The brand will also display the iconic 1938 Hispano Suiza Xenia Dubonnet at The Quail. This model was built on the chassis of the Hispano-Suiza H6B and featured a body designed by aerodynamics expert Jean Andreau and handcrafted by Jacques Saoutchik. It was one of the most extravagant and aerodynamic cars of its era. This historic vehicle continues to inspire Hispano Suiza's modern hypercars.

Another notable event during Monterey Car Week will occur on August 15 evening. As part of its partnership with the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles, Hispano Suiza is sponsoring an industry talk at Bonhams auction house in Carmel. This conference will focus on Hispano Suiza's anniversary and the evolution of electric hypercars. Speakers include Sergio Martínez Campos and Juan Fernández, CTO of Hispano Suiza.

Legacy and Future Vision

Hispano Suiza has a rich history dating back to its founding in Barcelona in 1904 by Damián Mateu with engineer Marc Birkigt. Over its history, it produced more than 12,000 luxury vehicles and 50,000 aircraft engines between 1904 and 1946. In recent years, it has focused on electric hypercars with models like the Carmen unveiled in 2019 and Carmen Boulogne introduced later.

The celebration of Hispano Suiza's 120th anniversary includes an exhibition in the exclusive Chairman's Lounge during Monterey Car Week. The brand continues to evolve under Miguel Suqué Mateu's leadership while preserving its legacy. "For the third year in a row," said Campos, "we are sponsoring an event that allows us to provide a unique experience to our customers and partners in a key market for us."

This year marks another milestone as they introduce Carmen Sagrera as part of their electric hypercar lineup. With only 24 exclusive units planned for production, this model redefines their design line for future Gentleman Drivers.
