Hélio Castroneves Recognised As Honoree For The Amelia 2025 Celebrating Racing Excellence
The Amelia, a prestigious concours event held at the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, has named Hélio Castroneves as its honoree for 2025. Known for its racing heritage, The Amelia continues to celebrate notable figures in motorsport. Castroneves' achievements include four Indianapolis 500 victories and a 2020 IMSA championship with Acura Team Penske.
Hélio Castroneves' career began at age 12 in São Paolo, Brazil. He made his mark in motorsport with his first Indianapolis 500 win in 2001 with Team Penske. His most recent Indy 500 victory came in 2021 with Meyer Shank Racing, making him one of only four drivers to win the race four times.
Matt Orendac, Hagerty Vice Chairman of the Concours Group, remarked on Castroneves' impact on IndyCar: "Hélio Castroneves changed the history of IndyCar and represents everything that automotive racing should be about." The Amelia's 30th anniversary will honour this legacy while embracing new traditions.
Castroneves expressed his excitement about being honoured during The Amelia's milestone year. "There’s clearly a synergy between people who love racing and those who love concours," he said. "To be honoree of the event during its 30th year is also an honor and so special."
The Amelia weekend will feature seminars, films, auctions, driving experiences, and the renowned Concours d'Elegance. Nearly 300 cars across 30 classes will be showcased. Featured classes include Corvette at Sebring and Alfa Romeos from the 1930s, highlighting their historical significance in racing.
The FIA Formula One World Championship cars from 1950 to present will also be featured. This class celebrates F1's role as a leading form of racing since its inception. These vehicles continue to attract top drivers and engineers who push technological boundaries.
A Legacy of Excellence and Community Support
Since its founding in 1996, The Amelia has donated over $4 million to charitable organisations. Each year it honours a racing legend and draws celebrities from the automotive world. This commitment to excellence extends beyond cars to supporting communities through philanthropy.
In August 2023, Castroneves became a minority partner and co-owner of Meyer Shank Racing. His extensive experience now contributes to team ownership alongside his successful driving career. Additionally, he won season five of ABC's Dancing with the Stars in 2007.
