Hasna Zobiri Joins Women's Worldwide Car Of The Year Jury
The prestigious Algerian journalist Hasna Zobiri has joined the Women's Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) jury, the only car awards group in the world composed exclusively of female motoring journalists. With her appointment, the jury now includes 77 members from 52 countries.
Hasna Zobiri began her career in the automotive sector in 2008 with Algeria News newspaper, where she had a weekly section dedicated to automobiles. Over the years, she has covered significant events such as trade shows, test drives, and both national and international fairs.

Currently, Zobiri works at Canal Algérie TV, where she leads the show "ça tient la route," focusing on road safety and other automotive-related topics. Her extensive experience in the field makes her a valuable addition to the WWCOTY jury.
WWCOTY was created by New Zealand motoring journalist Sandy Myhre in 2009. It aims to recognise the best cars of the year and give a voice to women in the automotive world. The voting criteria are based on principles that guide any driver when choosing a car, including safety, quality, price, design, ease of driving, benefits, and environmental footprint.
Marta García, Executive President of WWCOTY, expressed her delight at Zobiri's appointment. "Her joining will help to strengthen the role of women drivers in Algeria and encourage other women to take part in this wonderful sector," García stated.
Algeria's Automotive Sector
A few years ago, Algeria's automobile sector was economically dynamic. However, in 2020, Algeria decided to halt imports to encourage local production. Over the past year, vehicle importation has resumed, and assembly plants for brands like FIAT and OPEL have appeared. Algeria is now awaiting further investment from other automobile brands.
WWCOTY's Unique Role
WWCOTY stands out as it is exclusively composed of female motoring journalists. This unique composition aims not only to select the best cars but also to give visibility to women in the automotive world. The jurors do not select a 'woman’s car' because cars are not gender-specific; instead, they focus on universal aspects important to all drivers.
The organisation's broader goal is to make women's voices heard across all continents. Mobility for women means access to numerous personal and professional opportunities, making WWCOTY's mission both significant and impactful.
