GWM ORA UK Joins Forces With Octopus Electroverse For A Scenic EV Charging Guide
Online research and data analytics group, YouGov, has found that domestic holidays in the UK will be the most popular option this summer. Many Brits will be heading south to enjoy the warmer climate, quaint villages, and scenic coastline. With an increase in travel and the growth of electric vehicle (EV) adoption, many will be making longer journeys and charging an EV for the first time.
To support the shift to sustainable transport, GWM ORA and Octopus Electroverse have identified some of the most scenic charging locations in the South of England. The route starts in London and includes five stops in charming locations across the South coast of England around Kent. Drivers can enjoy activities such as getting a coffee, playing games, and taking in coastal views while charging their vehicles.
Automotive and lifestyle content creator, TGE, drove part of the 433-mile route in an ORA 03 PRO+ while exploring sustainability topics for Clean Air Day 2024. Toby Marshall, Managing Director of GWM ORA UK, emphasized the importance of highlighting efforts within the automotive industry to create a greener environment. He believes recent advances in EV technology and charging infrastructure empower consumers to make greener choices.
The impact of air pollution on the environment and health is a significant challenge globally, including in the UK. Currently, 79% of the UK exceeds the World Health Organization’s (WHO) annual mean guideline for safe fine particulate matter levels. Additionally, cars accounted for 75% of road vehicle miles travelled within the UK, producing 57% of transport emissions.
Adoption of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure can play a crucial role in lowering road transport emissions. This partnership between GWM ORA and Octopus Electroverse aims to highlight how drivers can benefit from EVs and simple charging on the Octopus Electroverse platform. Octopus Electroverse has grown to be the UK’s largest EV charging platform with their ‘one card, one app’ model.
Since launching in the UK 18 months ago, GWM ORA has established a network of over thirty retail sites with more than 1,500 ORA 03 vehicles now on UK roads. It is estimated that each year these vehicles save around 2,700 tonnes of CO2 compared to similarly sized petrol cars. Earlier this year, ORA 03 received top marks from Green NCAP for its efficiency and environmental impact.
ORA 03 was awarded top marks by Green NCAP, an independent testing initiative that measures cars on their efficiency and environmental impact. With an average test score of 97%, ORA 03 achieved a five-star Green rating. It was also announced as the winner of Green NCAP’s ‘Small Family Car’ and ‘Full Electric Car’ categories.
Additionally, ORA 03 received the Green NCAP ‘Greener Choice’ Life Cycle Assessment Award in 2023. This award compares a car’s impact on climate from manufacturing through its lifetime usage to end-of-life treatment. Measured on Green House Gas Emissions and Primary Energy Demand using default parameters, ORA 03 outperformed many petrol and BEV counterparts.
Octopus Electroverse has quickly grown to become the UK’s largest EV charging platform. Their ‘one card, one app’ model simplifies on-the-go charging. Drivers can access around 750,000 chargers from nearly 700 different charge point brands across over 40 countries.
