Gurugram Traffic Authority Sets New Guidelines For Nighttime Vehicle Checks
In response to complaints about nighttime vehicle checks, the Gurugram DCP Traffic has issued new directives. These instructions aim to prevent inconvenience for drivers, stipulating that fines during nighttime require higher authority approval. The DCP Traffic's letter, dated May 28, outlined specific instructions for Traffic Inspectors.
New Directives for Nighttime Vehicle Checks
Deputy Commissioner of Police Virendra Vij instructed that no vehicles should be stopped or fined at night unless necessary under the Motor Vehicles Act. If a fine is needed, it must be approved by a relevant gazetted officer or the DCP Traffic.

"Traffic Inspectors are ordered to command all the employees appointed under them in their jurisdiction that no vehicle should be stopped at night and no challan should be issued. If it is very necessary to issue a challan to a driver as per the M.V. Act, in that situation, the challan of that vehicle should be issued as per rules only after bringing it to the notice of the concerned gazetted officer/undersigned and obtaining permission," the letter said.
Stringent actions will be taken against any officer who fails to follow these rules, as emphasized in the letter. The DCP stressed the importance of compliance and warned of immediate departmental consequences for negligence.
Focus on Public Assistance and Road Safety
To facilitate smoother nighttime traffic flow and address public grievances, night traffic police personnel were deployed in Gurugram. However, the DCP expressed concern over reports of officers unnecessarily stopping vehicles and imposing fines on common people.
DCP Vij emphasized the role of nighttime traffic personnel in assisting drivers and ensuring road safety, particularly during accidents. The letter highlighted the importance of guiding drivers, arranging safe routes, and promptly attending to accident scenes.

"The traffic personnel deployed at night should play an important role as Traffic Police, Gurugram by guiding and helping the common people and drivers and arranging safe routes to take them to their destinations and in case of a road accident.
The injured persons should be immediately admitted to the nearest trauma center and the accident-hit vehicles should be immediately removed from the main road and traffic should be allowed to run smoothly," the letter said.
DriveSpark Thinks
Despite these measures, there has been an increase in reckless driving at night in Gurugram, leading to accidents. DCP Vij reiterated the traffic police's commitment to strict enforcement against drunk driving, including conducting regular campaigns to curb such behaviour.
The Gurugram Traffic Police conducts nighttime campaigns several days a week to address issues like drunk driving. However, many reckless drivers continue to violate traffic rules, endangering themselves and others, especially during nighttime hours.
