Canadian Armed Forces Awards GM Defense Canada C$35.8 Million For Light Tactical Vehicles

GM Defense Canada, a subsidiary of GM Defense, has secured a C$35.8 million contract from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) to supply 90 light tactical vehicles (LTVs). The contract includes an option for an additional 18 LTVs. Alongside the vehicles, GM Defense Canada will provide training, technical manuals, and other vehicle content sourced from Canadian companies.

The LTVs will support the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence Multinational Battlegroup in Latvia. These vehicles will enhance Soldiers' mobility across complex terrains by offering increased speed, range, and safety. "We are providing this critical capability to the Canadian Armed Forces within a timeline that meets their urgent operational requirement," said Steve duMont, president of GM Defense.

GM Defense Wins C$35.8M Military Contract

GM Defense Canada’s LTVs are based on the mid-size architecture of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. They feature a high percentage of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) parts, including Chevrolet Performance components for improved off-road capability. Weighing under 5000 pounds / 2232 kilograms, these tactical vehicles are light and agile.

The vehicles include both nine-passenger models and a new utility variant. These designs leverage proven solutions currently used by the U.S. Army. The LTVs also meet CAF requirements for performance and safety with active and passive safety features.

Steve duMont highlighted the significance of this contract as the start of a long-term strategic partnership with CAF. He stated, "We see this contract award as the beginning of a long strategic partnership with the Canadian Armed Forces to provide enhanced tactical mobility for Soldiers today, and into the future."

Kristian Aquilina, president and managing director of GM Canada, added, "General Motors’ support of the Canadian Armed Forces with this contract is a prime example of the meaningful contributions GM makes in Canada." He emphasized GM's impact in defense through GM Defense Canada and its Canadian Technical Centre.

Reliable and Easy Maintenance

The light tactical vehicles offer air transportability and ease of maintenance due to their reliance on parts accessible through GM’s global supply chain. This ensures they are reliable and easy to operate while meeting CAF's stringent performance standards.

GM Defense delivers integrated solutions in vehicles, power and propulsion, autonomy, and connectivity to global defense markets. Their technologies benefit from decades of proven performance and significant investment in independent research by General Motors.

The conclusion highlights GM Defense's commitment to leveraging General Motors' vast resources to ensure their global defense customers have top-notch capabilities for mission success.
