German Ambassador Embraces Indian Culture: Ties Lemon And Chilli On New Car
German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, has made a significant move towards sustainability by adopting electric vehicles (EVs). To celebrate this transition, he honored Indian traditions by smashing a coconut and adorning his new car with lemon and chilli for protection against negative energies.
Mr. Ackermann highlighted the severe air pollution that plagues Delhi during the winter months, which influenced his decision to switch to an EV. He stated, "Germany and India share a commitment to a partnership focused on sustainable development. Given the drastic increase in pollution during winter, I felt it was essential to contribute to environmental efforts. I wanted an electric vehicle, and after some time, my headquarters agreed to provide an e-Car, which ultimately aims to reduce pollution."
Focus on Sustainable Development
The ambassador highlighted Germany and India's shared commitment to sustainable development. He noted that his decision aligns with their partnership agreement aimed at reducing pollution. His headquarters eventually approved acquiring an electric vehicle for this purpose.
On October 12, Mr Ackermann expressed enthusiasm about the Federation of European Business in India (FEBI) launching in Delhi. He believes FEBI will advance free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations between India and Europe.

European Influence in Indian Business
Discussing FEBI's launch, Mr Ackermann emphasised Europe's significant role in India's business landscape. "It's a great moment. I think FEBI is a very, very interesting network. It is now a network that has over a hundred companies from Europe, and it's an umbrella organization of all the bilateral chambers of commerce.
And I think in the time where Europe play an always more and bigger role in India, it is a very, very interesting and important network. In the near future, we will see FEBI being very active in very many fields, not least also when it comes to the FTA negotiations between India and the EU," he said.
The ambassador anticipates FEBI's active involvement across various sectors soon. This includes playing a crucial part in discussions related to FTAs between India and the EU.
By adopting an EV, Mr Ackermann aims to contribute positively towards reducing air pollution in Delhi during winter months. His actions reflect broader efforts towards sustainability within Indo-German relations.
