Genesis Unveils High-Performance X Gran Racer VGT Concept At Busan Mobility Show 2024

The Genesis X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept made its debut at the Busan International Mobility Show 2024 (BIMOS). This event marked the first public appearance of a Magma vehicle in Korea. The redesigned Genesis Electrified G80, which premiered globally in Beijing on April 25, was also showcased for the first time in Korea. Additionally, the Genesis Neolun Concept had its Asian debut following its global premiere in New York on March 25.

"Genesis is constantly pushing the boundaries to deliver its unique values of safety, comfort and a dynamic driving experience," said Global Head of Genesis Mike Song. "As Korea’s leading luxury brand, we will always attentively listen to the voices of our guests, ensuring their desires are our utmost priority."

The X Gran Racer VGT Concept is derived from the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Concept and is the fourth vehicle developed for the Gran Turismo digital racing game series. It features enhanced ground effects that optimize aerodynamic qualities and road-holding capabilities. Active aerodynamic flaps, electronically controlled for precise adjustments, ensure optimal airflow management. The flat underbody design further reduces drag and improves stability.

The Two-Line Crest Grille lamp design extends from the front to the sides and rear, creating a cohesive flow that optimizes airflow and enhances performance. The larger front splitter, rear diffuser, strategically placed canards on the front fascia, and a more aggressive rocker panel all contribute to improved aerodynamics and high-speed stability. The elongated dash-to-axle ratio positions the driver and powertrain toward the rear, creating a mid-engine layout.

The long wheelbase and short front overhang result in timeless proportions that epitomize Genesis’ aesthetic. Voluminous fenders combined with parabolic lines create an iconic silhouette. The rear design integrates the powerful Two-Line character from the front and side profile, visually expressing concentrated energy. The real carbon fibre rear wing enhances downforce for improved stability while vertical rear lights ensure visibility even in extreme racing conditions.

Interior: Embracing Minimalism

Genesis’ design philosophy, "The Beauty of Openness," is evident in this concept where minimalism meets performance. Inspired by racing's pursuit of speed and precision, the interior prioritizes essential functions while elevating driver experience. Structural elements minimize weight while accentuating core focus. Control switches are incorporated into a structural divider under the instrumental panel; a fully integrated roll cage adds functionality.

The Digital Panoramic Interface integrates essential vehicle information into a panoramic display, providing comprehensive overviews at a glance. This intuitive interface minimizes distractions and maximizes situational awareness for quick decision-making. Carbon fibre accents throughout reflect dynamism and raw power while contributing to weight reduction and agility.

Performance: Powertrain Excellence

The X Gran Racer VGT Concept features a front mid-mounted race-spec Lambda II V6 engine with Genesis’ electric supercharger technology. This hybrid powertrain delivers 1,540 hp and 1,051 lb-ft of torque. The V6 engine alone produces 870 hp at 10,000 rpm while an additional 670 hp comes from the front E motor.

The redesigned Electrified G80 marks Genesis’ first redesign since its global debut three years ago. It features an iconic G-Matrix Crest Grille with Micro Lens Array headlamps and a redesigned bumper embodying "Athletic Elegance." Chrome accents elevate its look alongside signature parabolic lines flowing over new dish-style 19-inch wheels.

Neolun Concept: Merging Technology with Hospitality

The Neolun Concept is Genesis’ first full-size electric SUV concept embodying ultimate hospitality with state-of-the-art features like B-pillarless coach doors, swiveling front-row seats, and electric side steps. Its exterior showcases clean lines eliminating unnecessary details with a two-tone colour scheme inspired by Korea’s night sky.

Inside the Electrified G80, an extended wheelbase creates an expansive second-row area with innovative features enhancing passenger comfort. Passengers can close doors using EasyClose system buttons then settle into reclining VIP seats behind privacy curtains.

BIMOS runs from June 28 to July 7 at Exhibition Center 1 in Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO). Seven cars will be displayed including X Gran Racer VGT Concept, Neolun Concept, two redesigned Electrified G80s along with GV70, GV80 and G90 Black models.
