Genesis And U.S. Soccer Foundation Launch New Mini-Pitch To Enhance Youth Sports Access At Broadway YMCA

A new mini-pitch has been introduced at the Broadway YMCA on Staten Island, New York, thanks to Genesis, the U.S. Soccer Foundation, and the MLS Players Association (MLSPA). This installation follows a recent one in Hollywood, Florida, marking the second project from this partnership. The initiative aims to provide safe spaces for children to play soccer and develop their skills.

The opening event featured children and coaches participating in a ceremonial first kick and an inaugural scrimmage. Families enjoyed games and food from local vendors while participants received commemorative jerseys. This mini-pitch is part of the U.S. Soccer Foundation's Safe Places to Play program, which seeks to establish 1,000 mini-pitches nationwide by 2026.

Claudia Marquez, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America, expressed the company's dedication to community development. "At Genesis, we are committed to creating opportunities for local communities that extend beyond our brand," she stated. Ed Foster-Simeon, president and CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation, highlighted the broader benefits of youth sports access. The new mini-pitch will enhance children's access to soccer and its associated benefits in under-resourced communities.

The MLSPA's executive director Bob Foose expressed enthusiasm for the project: "The MLSPA is excited to be a part of the mini-pitch opening at the Broadway YMCA." He noted that MLS players are eager to support creating safe play spaces for youth in their communities.

Sharon Greenberger, president and CEO of YMCA of Greater New York, emphasized soccer's role in uniting families across cultures. She expressed gratitude towards Genesis Gives and MLSPA for funding this addition at Broadway Y campus, enhancing accessibility ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
