Genesis House Unveils STARSCAPE: An Immersive Winter Light Installation By Ethan Tobman In New York City
Genesis has introduced STARSCAPE, a captivating light installation at Genesis House in New York. This project, crafted with Ethan Tobman, a renowned creative director, draws inspiration from the Korean Winter Solstice, Dongji. It offers visitors an immersive experience that blends physical and digital realms, celebrating the longest night of the year with vibrant constellations and glowing embers.
The installation transforms Genesis House into a dynamic space that honours Korean heritage while embracing winter's beauty. Tobman's design merges traditional and modern artistry, creating an environment where guests can explore celestial wonders. "Collaborating with Genesis on STARSCAPE has been an inspiring and rewarding experience," said Ethan Tobman.
Visitors begin their journey at the Cellar Stage, where they are taken on a visual exploration of the night sky. The experience starts with twinkling stars that evolve into celestial faces. As the night progresses, glowing embers rise to form a hanok roof silhouette. This crescendo leads to ancient constellations as Earth passes by, marking Dongji's conclusion.
The centrepiece of STARSCAPE is 590 lights meticulously arranged to recreate constellations visible in Seoul and New York. This display symbolises a nightly connection between these distant cities. Guests witness this progression as shimmering lights cascade from the ceiling, offering a satellite view of Seoul beneath their feet.
Rachel Espersen, executive director of brand experience at Genesis Motor America, stated, "At Genesis House, we aim to bring truly one-of-a-kind experiences to our guests that reflect our commitment to audacious design while honoring our distinctly Korean heritage." The installation is open to the public from November 14th.
During their visit, guests can enjoy specialty items at Genesis House Restaurant. These include unique cocktails like BUKDU CHILSEONG and CHEONGDO 75, alongside desserts such as STARLIGHT CHOUX. These offerings enhance the overall experience by complementing the visual journey through the winter solstice.
