Gabby Thomas Triumphs With First Olympic Gold In Paris 2024 Women’s 200m
Gabby Thomas, aged 27, secured her first Olympic gold medal in the Women’s Track & Field 200m at Stade de France during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Running in lane seven, Thomas led by the end of the turn and finished the race in 21.83 seconds. "Crossing the line, (I) was in disbelief," said Thomas. "I knew I could do it. I knew going into the race that I have this. It was a confidence and a feeling that I felt. There’s no feeling like having a gold medal. There’s nothing like it, and when I crossed the line, immense pride and immense happiness. I can’t even describe it."
This victory adds to Thomas’ previous Olympic achievements, including a silver medal in the 4×100-meter relay and a bronze in the 200m from Tokyo 2020. She arrived in Paris with strong momentum after winning the 200m at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in June, where she became the second-fastest 200m sprinter in U.S. history with a time of 21.78 seconds.

Outside of her Olympic success, Thomas has an impressive track record. She won gold in the 200m at the 2023 U.S. Track and Field Championships, setting both a world-leading time and a meet record. As a Harvard University student-athlete, she claimed gold and broke collegiate records in the 200m at both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2018.
Thomas also boasts an extraordinary collegiate career with Harvard University, where she won gold and set records at both indoor and outdoor NCAA Track & Field Championships in 2018. Additionally, she has amassed 22 conference titles across six different events.
