Formula E Season 11 Kicks Off In São Paulo: Key Highlights And Driver Insights
Formula E is gearing up for its 11th season, starting in São Paulo, Brazil, on 7 December 2024. This marks the first time the city will host the season opener. The GEN3 Evo cars will make their debut, showcasing advancements like acceleration from 0-60mph in just 1.82 seconds and all-wheel drive for improved performance. The São Paulo circuit is known for its long straights and technical chicanes, promising thrilling racing action.
The GEN3 Evo cars represent a significant leap in electric racing technology, combining high performance with sustainability. These cars accelerate faster than current Formula 1 vehicles and feature tires made from 35% reusable materials. The introduction of all-wheel drive during key race moments enhances control and traction, underscoring Formula E's commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility.

This season sees notable driver changes that have reshaped the grid. Maximilian Günther joins DS PENSKE alongside Jean-Éric Vergne after leaving Maserati MSG Racing. Stoffel Vandoorne moves to Maserati MSG Racing with newcomer Jake Hughes. Meanwhile, Envision Racing retains Robin Frijns and Sébastien Buemi, while TAG Heuer Porsche continues with Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa.
Lucas di Grassi is eager to perform well in front of his home crowd in Brazil. "It's great that we are able to show more of the potential of Formula E in front of my home crowd in Brazil," said Lucas Di Grassi. "Four-wheel drive is a game changer which, for more than seven years, I have been asking Formula E for."
Formula E continues to lead in sustainability efforts as it prepares for the São Paulo E-Prix. The event will use sustainable energy sources like HVO fuel and grid power. Additionally, the FIA Girls on Track initiative will engage young women through workshops and career talks. The Better Futures Fund supports local communities with donations and engagement activities during race week.
The São Paulo circuit offers a challenging layout with three long straights connected by technical chicanes and tight turns. This setup allows for numerous overtaking opportunities and showcases the GEN3 Evo's capabilities. Last year's race saw over 200 overtakes and a thrilling finish, setting high expectations for this year's event.
