Ford Introduces Maverick Lobo: The Ultimate Performance-Tuned Street Truck
Inspired by the lowered truck era from the mid-1980s to early 2000s, the Maverick Lobo offers a fresh canvas for modern street truck builds. This new model provides customers with a unique option while maintaining Maverick's value and versatility. It joins the lineup alongside the off-road capable Maverick Tremor and the efficient Maverick Hybrid.
The collaboration between designers and engineers has resulted in the Maverick Lobo, featuring a lowered ride height and on-road tuned suspension. The vehicle is equipped with tuned shocks and a 2-liter EcoBoost engine, tested to Built Ford Tough standards and backed by a factory warranty. The ride height is reduced by half an inch in the front and 1.12 inches in the rear compared to the standard Maverick, with an overall roof height reduction of 0.8 inches.
Josh Blundo, who joined Ford in 2019, saw potential in a clay model of the Maverick and began modifying it with widebody elements, wings, front splitter, and wheels. His vision inspired a special build by Tucci Hot Rods that gained attention at the 2021 Special Equipment Manufacturers Association trade show. Blundo's idea eventually led to the design of the Lobo.
The Maverick Lobo retains Maverick's aesthetics but with unique touches such as a distinctive front style, painted rear bumper, and rocker moldings contrasted by a black-painted roof and 19-inch black wheels. The interior features accents inspired by street art observed by designer Kristen Keenan during her travels. Grabber Blue and Electric Lime stitching, graffiti-inspired seat overprints, and embossed Lobo names on seats reflect current streetwear trends.
Keith Daugherty and other engineers worked on tweaking springs and suspension components from other Ford performance vehicles to create an authentic on-road performance truck. The steering is tuned for a performance car feel, with torque vectoring through a twin-clutch rear drive unit and enhanced brakes featuring dual-piston front brake calipers from the Focus ST sold in Europe.
Purposeful Technology
The standard configuration of Maverick Lobo includes all described features, while the high configuration adds comforts like heated steering wheel and seats, Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 driver-assist technologies, a 360-degree camera, spray-in bedliner, moon roof, Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist starting early in 2025.
Lobo mode enhances cornering performance, grip, stability, and minimizes understeer but is intended only for closed courses as it activates torque while reducing stability control intervention. Additionally, upgrades to the cooling system include a larger radiator and fan from Maverick's 4K towing package along with a transmission oil cooler.
Ordering for the 2025 Maverick Lobo begins on August 1st with deliveries starting early in 2025. High configuration models will have late availability.
