Ford Raptor T1+ Set To Conquer Dakar Rally With Advanced Tech And Design
Ford Performance has unveiled the new Ford Raptor T1+, a vehicle designed to tackle the challenging Dakar Rally. This truck, developed in collaboration with M-Sport Ltd., features advanced suspension and a powerful V8 engine. It aims to conquer the toughest rally raid terrains, incorporating lessons from previous Dakar Rally experiences.
The Ford Raptor T1+ will debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports, stated, "Taking on such a demanding race like Dakar is a daunting task for all of us at Ford Performance, but we have never shirked a challenge." He added that partnering with M-Sport and Red Bull demonstrates their serious commitment to this project.

The truck's advanced suspension system includes front and rear independent double-wishbone setups. Fox has provided coilover three-way adjustable and four-way adjustable external bypass dampers with remote reservoirs for each wheel. This ensures superior handling and durability in extreme conditions.
Under the hood, the Ford Raptor T1+ boasts a 5.0L Coyote-based V8 engine. This engine delivers the necessary power and torque for rugged terrains. It also features a unique dry-sump oil system and a tuned exhaust tailored for Dakar challenges.

The vehicle's design combines functionality with Ford’s signature Raptor aesthetics. It features T45 steel spaceframe and carbon fibre body panels, offering both performance benefits and a striking appearance. The truck has 400mm ground clearance, a wide stance for improved off-road stability, and a chiseled grille with FORD spelled across the front.
The Ford Raptor T1+ sits on 8.5-inch by 17-inch aluminium wheels with 37-inch tyres. It is equipped with front and rear 355mm Alcon ventilated discs and six-piston monoblock calipers. The vehicle has up to 350mm of wheel travel, ensuring it can handle extreme conditions.

Competition Schedule
The competition schedule for the Ford Raptor T1+ includes several key events. The first is the Baja Hungary from August 8-10, 2024. This event will test the team's technical driving skills on its twisting course.
Next is the Rallye du Maroc from October 4-11, 2024. This weeklong competition in Morocco offers diverse terrains similar to those found in Saudi Arabia, providing an essential testing ground before Dakar.
The ultimate test will be the 2025 Dakar Rally from January 4-17, 2025. All four teams will compete in this pinnacle of off-road endurance racing, aiming to showcase both driver and machine capabilities.
Elite Drivers Onboard
The new truck will be driven by elite drivers Carlos Sainz Sr., with navigator Lucas Cruz, and Nani Roma, with navigator Alex Haro. Additional teams of drivers will be announced later this year.
Matt Wilson, M-Sport director and Dakar team manager, expressed excitement about supporting Ford Performance in this endeavour: "This is the kind of opportunity that comes once in a lifetime – to support Ford Performance as they head to Dakar with this new Ford Raptor T1+ is going to be an incredible adventure."
