Ford Performance Motorsports Teams Up With HRT For Mustang GT3's DTM Debut In 2025
Ford Performance Motorsports has partnered with Haupt Racing Team (HRT) to bring the Mustang GT3 to prominent European racing series. This collaboration will see the Mustang GT3 compete in events like the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) and Nürburgring Nordschleife under the "HRT Ford Performance" banner. The partnership aims to expand Ford's presence in customer racing across Europe.
The Mustang GT3 has already made its mark in 2024, achieving podium finishes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the IMSA series in the USA. Now, with HRT's involvement, Ford plans to further extend its global reach by participating in additional top-tier European series. This includes the ADAC Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie and other prestigious races.
A significant aspect of this collaboration is the Mustang GT3's entry into renowned endurance races. These include the ADAC RAVENOL 24 hours Nürburgring, Crowdstrike 24 Hours of Spa, and Rolex 24 At DAYTONA. These events test both driver and vehicle endurance, showcasing the Mustang's capabilities to a broader audience worldwide.
Haupt Racing Team brings a wealth of experience to this venture, having secured titles such as the 2021 DTM Drivers’ Championship and a 2023 GT World Challenge Europe title. Their proven track record enhances Ford’s Mustang GT3 program, promising strong performances in upcoming races.
Ford has a storied history in DTM racing dating back to the 1980s with iconic cars like the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth. The brand also boasts five victories at the Nürburgring 24 Hours with models such as the Escort and Capri. This rich legacy supports Ford’s current efforts to expand its global presence in GT3 racing.
Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports, expressed enthusiasm about HRT joining their global family. He stated: "Having a team like HRT join the Ford Performance global family is a significant moment for us." He highlighted that this collaboration strengthens Ford’s position in GT3 racing globally.
HRT's Perspective on Collaboration
Ulrich Fritz, managing director of Haupt Racing Team GmbH, shared his excitement about working with Ford. He remarked: "HRT has continuously developed and improved over the past few years... The fact that Ford has chosen HRT as its spearhead in Europe is a great honor." Fritz emphasized their readiness for the upcoming season alongside Ford.
