Ford Performance Unveils New Junior Program To Identify Future Mustang Racing Talent

Ford Performance has introduced a new initiative, the Ford Performance Junior Program, aimed at discovering future racing stars. This program will unite promising drivers and guide them towards a career in global sports car racing within the Ford Performance family. Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsport, stated, "At Ford Performance, we are always on the lookout for fresh new racing talent and with the new Ford Performance Junior Team program, we think we have a great solution for the future."

The program is open to drivers worldwide and will select a limited number each year. Evaluations for the first class are ongoing until December. Selected participants will be contacted before the inaugural class announcement. The first driver chosen is Robert Noaker, 2024 Mustang Challenge Dark Horse Class Champion.

Ford Performance will assess candidates from series like Mustang Challenge, Mustang Cup, and Mustang GT4 globally. Selection criteria include average stats compared to top drivers, current performance, feedback from sanctioning bodies, temperament, and driving improvement over time.

Participants will receive mentoring from factory Mustang GT3 racers and coaching during selected race weekends. Simulator sessions with Ford Performance engineers will help refine driving skills and provide extra seat time.

Beyond racing skills, Ford Performance offers regular training on physical and mental demands of professional driving. Participants also learn about sponsorships, social media engagement, and partake in Ford-sponsored events.

The aim for 2025 is to prepare development drivers for higher competition levels with year-round support. Opportunities may include testing the Mustang GT4 or GT3 models.

Mentorship from Experienced Professionals

Kevin Groot, Ford Performance Motorsports Sports Car program manager said, "We have a fantastic team of seasoned drivers, teams, and engineers who are passionate about mentoring the next generation of racers." The program aspires to develop drivers who might join the Mustang GT3 Factory Program.

The full roster for the first season of the Ford Performance Junior Team will be revealed at the Ford Performance Season Launch event in January 2025.
